OK, Guys.....I'm back in Car Chat (hopefully for good this time).

Thanks. So far, so good. The leg incisions, though with scars, are almost fully-healed (they removed three big veins for the by-pass). The broken breastbone is healing OK (they cut it, hold it open during surgery, and then wire it back together with stainless-steel clips that remain in the body), but still has some minor soreness and irritation to it....that will probably last several more weeks. I also have a lingering cough (not serious) from the way that surgery can affect the lungs, but that is also improving noticeably. Tomorow morning I do a treadmill test to see how the heart itself is recovering.
(I wonder if those permanent metal clips will set off metal-detectors in security check-points. Even after retirement, I sometimes need access to Federal buildings. I guess we'll see. They show up clearly on X-Ray imaging, though)

You didn't mention taste. Nothing tasted right for months.
Good luck with rehab, it's the best part of the whole process.

You should be ok with small amounts of hardware. I have 2 screws in my left clavicle, no problem at airports or entering court houses with tight security.

Hey Mike, glad to see everything went ok and you're getting back to your old self!
my 84 year old parents are going the other way
barely able to hang on to their independence, with no driving anymore (after his Buick vs Excursion crash)...and my Mom's semi-mild stroke during a bypass procedure.
......so be very grateful for your health.

Welcome back Mike! It'll be great to see your reviews here again. Don't push yourself too hard at first - you are probably feeling a lot better, but that round of surgery can mess with your "bounce back" ability for months.
I know it's good to be able to drive again, although I was getting used to being chauffeured everywhere. Just to get out of the house at first, I'd go shopping with my wife - usually staying in the car as I wasn't quite up to hoofing it for an hour or so through a big-box store. I'd just lay the passenger's seat back and snooze . . . scaring a lot of passers-by who'd peer in the deep tinted window of the RX and discover a "dead" body on board. Gotta confess, I rather enjoyed keeping one hand on the seat controls and powering myself up to an upright position with my eyes still closed . . . then opening them when just about face to face with "observers" just to see how high they'd jump.
Hey, when you're recuperating you learn to make your own fun . . .
