An auto-start may or may not work, depending on how much ice is blocking (or impeding) the engine grille and air-intake up front, exhaust-pipe outlets in back, and/or the defroster air-intakes. The air-intakes, of course, have to be clear for both the engine and defroster to run.

Look at the picture it's not sealed in ice, plenty of air and exhaust is free

Rear and side windows are tempered glass, at least on modern vehicles. They will not crack if you use hot water on them, even if they are frozen.

However the windshield is not tempered glass, and you can crack it by suddenly changing temperatures.

Tempered glass, maybe, but I wouldn't bet the monthly rent on them not cracking.

Agreed.

I agree that the pipe outlet itself basically looks clear, but there could be some ice jammed up inside of it. We don't necesarily know from what direction the water spraying the back of the car came from. And the defroster inlets are almost certainly blocked.

Gallons of windshield washer de-icer applied with a fire hose might work.

Stick it in front of a Bloomberg press conference and the ice will be gone in about 20 minutes.

I wonder if any of the water from that initial pipe burst seeped in to ruin the interior. Moreover, there are a lot of places under a hood that are likely damaged. My guess is that if this vehicle isn't totaled, the guy is going to at least need a new radiator.

Grab a couple of hair dryers, and you should be good.

There was a blip on the new this morning showing some construction worker going at the drivers side with a torch! Ouch.

Let's hope the car owner never liked the car.
