Default Most Mileage on a Car When Purchasing

When buying a new car, I know that for some people (including me) mileage matters.

So whats the most mileage would you be ok with when buying a new car?

Personally, I think the most I would let slide for a car when purchasing is 18k a year. So with a 2006 Lexus, I wouldn't want the car to have more than 90,000 miles (18k x 5 years).

For a 2008 car, I wouldn't want it to be more than 54,000 miles (18k x 3 years).

What are your standards when it comes to mileage and buying a used car?

I would have to consider more then just year and mileage, also depends on what kind of car it

I bought my Ram with 42,678. It is a 2009 (early build). Alot of variables to consider here, but my list was:

-the hour meter/mileage on the computer= an average speed of 54mph. Mostly hwy miles.
-There was no trailer hitch at all on the truck, so i am fairly certian it never towed anything.

Upon further investigation, I find it was covered in Vinyl graphics and used by the dealership at events around the state...then the graphics were removed and it was sold as used. So when it was not on the highway, it was sitting.

Which ones your bucket?

The type of car's I see are:

'06 IS350 93,880 miles for $17,450
'06 IS350 87,890 miles for $19,888
'06 GS300 87,649 miles for $19,990
'06 GS300 77,369 miles for $20,995
'06 GS300 65,163 miles for $21,900
'06 GS300 41,500 miles for $21,995
'06 GS300 66,148 miles for $21,999
'06 GS300 61,416 miles for $22,980
'06 GS300 56,488 miles for $22,995
'06 IS350 61,030 miles for $23,873 (CPO)
'06 GS350 61,934 miles for $23,995

^I would want any of these. I know that it's just the model year/number, mileage and price. But I want a car for no more than $25,000; the lesser the better.

Also, when it comes to negotiation, would a dealership be able to drop the price of the car by 15% or is that too much?

Why not a nicely equipped Camry, those car listed above, do they come with the pre-owned warranty except the one IS, I would go with the GS that drives like new or close to it, looks like it was taken care of physically and has some signs of having preventative maintenance

I forgot to add this, easiest way to figure out how low a dealer will go on a used car is, go to kbb.com put that car and features in, see what the price is for a private party sale, and trade in value, trade in value is the lowest value you can get for a car, probably what the dealer paid for the car, thats your negotiation point, so all those cars listed could sell for 2000+ lower in price

I look for maintenance records more than anything else, if the car only has 30K but had only one oil change in its life, then it's not worth any premium for a "low mileage" car..

&I second the KBB. Know what the car is worth wholesale. Don't be afraid to walk out. Chances are they will call you back with an even lower offer. I told them thanks but no thanks for an offer that was borderline good on my ES, and they called me an hour later, with an offer that was $800 lower (on a 4500 car). That put me square in "Private party value" according to KBB, and it had a retail of $5500 at the time!
