Porsche Boxster S Black Edition Debuts

STUTTGART, Germany — Porsche is adding a Boxster S Black Edition this spring to its collection of limited-run cars. The Boxster S Black Edition will be even more exclusive than the recently announced 911 Black Edition, with only 987 units to be produced worldwide. Price in the U.S. is $66,150, which includes a $950 shipping charge; prices in Germany start at $87,550, including VAT.

The Boxster S Black Edition gets a bump in output, with its 3.4-liter flat-6 engine delivering 320 horsepower. With the optional PDK seven-speed double-clutch gearbox, the Boxster S Black Edition gallops from 0-60 in 4.8 seconds, with a top speed of 170 mph. The optional Sport Chrono package provides more aggressive Sport and Sport Plus shift modes, and trims 0-60 acceleration to 4.6 seconds.

The car is given a monochromatic treatment inside and out. The exterior gets black paint, black convertible top, black exhaust pipes and side intake grilles, and black-painted 19-inch Spyder wheels shod with 235/35ZR19 front tires and 265/35ZR19 rears.

The cabin features black instrument dials (in place of white), a SportDesign steering wheel wrapped in black leather with twin aluminum-look spokes, and black leather upholstery with stainless steel and aluminum accents.

In the Boxster S Black Edition, Porsche has bundled the Design, Convenience and Infotainment packages as standard equipment, saving customers an estimated $3,200 over a comparably equipped Boxster S.
