Yup, can't say this was surprise for me at all either.

Edgy or polarizing designs do not sell very well. History has proven that time and time again. I do not wish to argue this point.

As for the Sonata, you missed my point. The previous generation Sonata started off with decent sales, and then PERCENTAGE-WISE the sales dropped as time went on.

Here are the sales figures to show what I mean:

Sonata sales for:

2004: 107,189
2005: 130,365
2006: 149,513
2007: 145,568
2008: 117,357
2009: 120,028
2010 (so far): 149,123 (only 3/4 year)
What is your point exactly?
That stylish cars don't sell over bland cars or that Hyundai can't maintain the sales success of a new model after the first year?

The new "stylish" Sonata is clearly outselling the previous "bland" generation, so I don't know what your point is bringing up the previous sales numbers here in this thread.

I liked Honda for so long, and have been bent over their recent falling. I still had a shred of hope they'd maybe wake up- at least with the Civic. But it was wishful thinking. As I mentioned earlier, they are truly and deeply screwed as a company. All we need is the next Accord to get botched (the facelift points to that direction) and the job will be complete across the board (sorry, I think the Fit is a nerd-mobile too). When that happens, I'll make an official R.I.P. Honda on Car Chat.

looks inoffensive.

honda is NOT done, and won't be outsold by many anytime soon..... because 90% of america likes vanilla.

Yes while this does look inoffensive, it also looks dated. I'm not sure how well this is going to do with the dated design.

It will sell to an extent, how well remains to be seen.

I agree.

The Civic will have a strong following, praising it's "evolution," as stylistically bland as it is.

But I see it selling stagnantly, rather than drawing the masses. Progress is not the word to use with Honda right now. Survival is a better word...

Odd to give Honda the "inoffensive" pass and then beat up everyone else that makes just as bland or just as ugly cars.

Everyone here is the overseas Honda City to get an idea what the front willl look like.

You have to give Honda credit. They continue to churn out mediocore, ugly, underwhelming cars and sheep buy them over and over. They are not investing in their products yet they continue to sell and they remain profitable.

More power to the company for being able to do that. Mazda has a far better lineup but no one seems to care.

Sorry, but that pic is the ugliest 4 door sedan that I've seen in years, at least to my eyes.

If badge and reputation didnt play a factor, this thing would get destroyed.

Its not the best looking design (I do like it more than the current gen already), and we can clown it as much as we want but, there is no way in heck this Civic will fail when it comes to sales.

I love Honda but dang, are they trying to out duel the Corolla for the most boring car award?

Their motorcycles are very good.

I'd love to have a VFR 1200 as a sport touring bike in the garage...

anywhoo, while America does buy vanilla, it wants it in a nice fancy cone once in a while
