Actually, when Arnold was elected in CA as Governor in 2003/04, he reduced the Vehicle License Fee from 2% to .65%.

We have annual registration, inspection and personal property tax on vehicles in NC.

Inspection - $30 + $10 for non-factory tinted windows
Registration - $28
Tax - $367 (based on an assessed value of $25,720 for my '07 GS350)

So ... $436 total

When I lived in MA we renewed every 2 years I believe for fairly cheap.. less than $50 I think but we got a yearly excise tax (paid to the town) based on an assessed value ($25 per $1,000) which exponentially declined the older the car was. Brandnew cars = bend over and grab your ankles. The assessed value does not line up with kbb or nada trade in or retail. It was always way less on a used car which is good for the tax payer.

I live in NJ now and I think I pay $75 a year. No excise tax.

Maybe find out what the tag fee will be BEFORE buying the car?

Mine was around $500 last year, you can thank GA for it. I had a wildlife tag that used to be a one time fee of $35 but now they want to charge you $35 every year for it. Then I drive around and a lot of roads need work, the toll road here still has a toll (though its paid off early) and they tell me the state is broke.

Since our city is polluted, we also pay a $25-$25 emissions fee every year in the metro area counties. Nevermind two of our cars are hybrids and are SULEV compliant.

Contrarily I believe our lovely state of TN has a flat $20 tag fee.

Almost $400 (including the extra $40 for Lake Tahoe plates), but I'm enjoying the 65 degree sunny weather.

amen. i know people who never thought about registration and insurance before they buy cars, and then they start to feel the pain when those bills come in. weird...

come to think about it, was happy when i got my m3 coz' it was the last day of the "low" registration. at least i "gained" that yr i guess

Paid $340 for my 07 IS350 in December in SoCal. My dad paid close to $500 for his 08 GS350 around the same time in Central Cali.

I thought everyone in CA was rich??

Here in IL it recently jumped to about $100/yr for cars - was $78 for a while.

My motorcycle is $46/yr w/ a personalized plate, otherwise it'd be like $39.

No complaints here.
