Default 2012 Jetta GLI debuts

http://www.autoblog.com/2011/02/09/c...n-bred-americ/

I point this out because I feel there are only a few car companies building models that blend modern, classy, and sporty designs in an affordable package.. Lexus, Audi, and Volkswagon would top my list. When the current Jetta debuted last year, it caught my attention. I thought it was a clean design, but a bit plain and in need of a better engine. For 2012, VW adds the corporate 2.0T good for 200 hp in the GLI model. The front bumper is also a bit more aggressive with vertical foglights and cutouts. Finally, the Euro suspension makes it's debut. Looks like a decent package for the price.

Its amazing how small touches can take a bland sedan and make it look sporty.

Well said. The standard Jetta's front bumper is about as plain and boring as they come. Two straight lines going across with very little underneath except a sea of cheap-looking black plastic. Adding the taller vertical foglight cutouts for the GLI was one of the few things that could be done given the conservative design.

Also notice the smoked rear tails- a hopped-up VW trademark. Too bad they didn't gain LED's.

$23,995 base price...

looking at the GTI build & price:
- $770 destination
- $1100 for DSG
- $5530 Autobahn Package [leather, premium audio, keyless entry]
- $2100 Sunroof Package [sunroof, multifunction steering wheel, not-as-premium audio]
- $3505 Sunroof + Navigation [Sunroof Package, nav, bi-xenon headlights]

I don't know what's happened with VW's options list--it's basically disappeared and has been replaced with the packages list. There are basically no options for the GTI save the ones I've mentioned above. I expect much the same for the GLI.

Dang! If that's the case, then that's rediculous. One thing I've always liked about German cars is the ability to get seperate options w/o having to get packages for everything. At least with the Jetta SEL, the push button start and nav come standard.
