Default Spy Shots: Extra-hot Jaguar XKR (updated - XKR-S)

Spy Shots: Extra-hot Jaguar XKR caught ahead of Geneva debut

Jaguar testers have just been caught running around the British countryside with a pair of camouflaged XK coupes. One looks to be the upcoming facelifted XKR, while the other appears to be a mysterious – and as-yet unnamed – more powerful XKR variant.

Rumor has it that this super XKR could be named the XK-E in honor of the 50th anniversary of Jaguar's legendary E-Type. We really only know two things about it at the moment: it's based off the 530-horsepower XKR Goodwood Special, and we're dying to see it in Jaguar's booth at the upcoming 2011 Geneva Motor Show.

Ok, which one is which? I'm guessing the XKR is the one without the wing, then the suped up version is the other? It looks higher than the other car.

The souped up version is the one with the wing, hood scoops and huge chin spoiler

Jaguar is bringing a more powerful XKR to the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, and goes by the name XKR-S.

We can only assume Jaguar is sticking with the supercharged 5.0-liter V8 as a motivational tool because the full details won't be unvieled until next week's shindig in Switzerland. However, we have been given a few numbers: 550 horsepower, 502 pound-feet of torque, a top-speed of 186 miles per hour and the ability to run from zero-to-60 miles per hour in just 4.2 seconds.

I was speaking with a friend today who has an '05 XK. I specifically asked about the reliability and any issues he may have had. He actually told me that he had had no issues with it other than a problem with the fuel tank....that needed to be replaced. Long story....but a known issue that has since been addressed in the design of the new XK's apparently.

Hopefully Jag has also made the rapid progression to improved quality control as this car is very appealing.

It's ugly and with 550hp on tap it takes 4.2 seconds to go 0-60?

Why would anyone buy this?

How fast do you think a Vantage is?

Yes, it's down on horsepower, but it's half a second slower. For the price compared to a new Vantage...the true competitor...this car has a lot to offer.

I've always viewed this car as the entry level Aston.

It's a GT car not a super car. Stop criticizing everything thats not a Lexus its really getting rather annoying.
