The WORST was back a couple of summers ago when I saw gas as much as 4.59/gal for premium...where my car only takes premium and I only get 15mpg. Good thing I only drive about 230 miles per week. It still costed me almost $75 bucks a week though! Amazing...$300 a month on gas for car. I really don't want to go through that again.

That's why I am looking into a cheap 4 cyl car as my daily beater; that can take the cheapest gas, less of it and better gas mileage. My GS will just be a weekend garage queen.

I heard something ridiculous, something to the effect that we have like 100 YEARS worth of oil in our OWN country; where we can be 100% independent of foreign oil! The ONLY reason I can think of why this isn't being utilized is that some politicians (gov't) are being heavily GREASED by these foreign oil companies to keep importing oil from them. The whole wildlife protection of the damn carabeau is JUST a scapegoat IMHO. I am SURE we have the technology to extract this oil from the ground without effecting the wildlife in Alaska. It is all crap!
By the time you consider tying up money on a second car or payment, depreciation on the car, insurance for the car, more repairs since it’s a beater and it still takes gas to drive, how does that really save you anything?

Where do you see $199 a month on a sign and drive?

Lease Deal
Deal: $189 per month for 36 months with $2,188 due at signing (Southeast)

Deal: $269 per month for 36 months with $2,999 due at signing (Ohio Valley)

Deal: $299 per month for 36 months with $299 due at signing (Gulf States)

Deal: $249 per month for 36 months with $2,999 due at signing (Northern California)

Deal: $269 per month for 36 months with $2,166 due at signing (Pacific Northwest)

Deal: $249 per month for 36 months with $2,499 due at signing (Mountain)

Deal: $319 per month for 36 months with $0 due at signing (Southern California)

Even at $5 a gallon, I do not see where its worth the hassle of having two cars unless you drive a ton. Add in the money to walk out the door with the Prius, the new plate and yearly Plate \ Taxes, Insurance, and the gas and its not a winning deal...........

On top of the fact, driving a prius everyday is not the same as driving a GS in terms of fun, comfort etc, there is a value there people forget about.

So the prius math doesnt work, nor does a beater, in the long run there is no cost savings unless your driving a lot of miles and even then.................

This is so true it isn't even funny. I was looking at daily beater 3 months ago, and it didn't make sense at all. If I purchased a daily beater for $5000 dollars; it would cost me around $40-50 for insurance per month, then I would have to allocate enough funds for maintenance and repair, it would take me years to ever recoup my initial investment. It is a lot cheaper for me to keep driving my Rx even if gas goes up to $5.00 per gallon than get a daily beater considering that I only fill up once per week.

I have a feeling that soon people will start modding their engines differently. Instead of 2Jz swaps and turbos, they'll be downgrading their V6's and V8's to 2 - 4 cylinder engines

Some two-cylinder powerplants were used long ago, in tiny little European econoboxes, but I don't think you'll ever see them again on modern cars. With only two cylinders and two power-pulses in the block, there is simply too much roughness and vibration to be acceptable in a modern car....even if a 4-cylinder engine decoupled two cylinders at cruise like Honda V-6s do to 3 cylinders and the 5.7L Chrysler Hemi does from V8 to 4.

I guess were all going to be downsizing cars again. I have a feeling the CT200h will be selling like hotcakes. It just sucks that the range is 1.6 km on electric I think I can drive to the groceries. It still can do around 789 km on a tank (5.7L per 100 km / 45L tank) or people can get the RXh, seeing it has a bigger fuel capacity it can do around 942 km on a tank.

I'm not sure the CT will sell like hotcakes because of the rising gas prices. What sense does it make to spend $30k plus on a car to save gas. Used car sales will keep on going up.
