Default Newsday: Car crash last night as result of racing on L.I.

Crazy people racing on Long Island Expressway last night.

Newsday article

http://www.newsday.com/long-island/s...fire-1.2727236

It becomes VERY serious when you are driving 140mph+ ! Luckily they hit the gas station going MUCH MUCH slower as they got off the highway and onto the service road. What a bunch of morons.

140+ wtf, idiots, let alone going over 100 it must have been a SRT-4 Neon to go that fast, why do people that owns those cars think they own the road, EVERYTIME.

I'm glad that no one else (apparantly) was injured or killed.

I agree.....it was probably either an SRT-4 or ACR Neon to get that kind of speed. The other driver, according to the article, was in a 2003 Mitsubishi "Lancer" (probably an Evo...the Ralliart was not out in 2003).

Before this whole case is over, these two guys are going to be way up ****** Creek.....especally the guy who hit the gas station. Not only the damage to their own cars (and any medical costs to their injuries), but what it will cost to rebuild the gas station and the other property destroyed (such as the damage in the Hooters parking lot). And guess what?........Auto insurance (and warranties) doesn't cover street racing. Their health insurance (if they have any) may or may not cover street-racing injuries....depends on the policy. Sometimes, if it doesn't, taxpayers end up with the hospital bills.

I partly blame TV and car-mag ads for this kind of nonsense, which show all kinds of "Fast and Furious" stuff that glorifies this kind of driving, despite the "Professional Driver on Closed Course....Don't Try This at Home" legal disclaimers. Most of us have enough sense to know, despite suggestive ads, what is safe on public roads and what isn't....but too many people don't.

Can't say i wouldn't expect something like this from a Neon SRT-4 driver.
People who drive those cars always show off, i see them flying down the freeway cutting in and out of cars and doing stupid crap all the time....it's a freicken Dodge Neon at the end of the day. -_-

Going that much over the speed limit is homicidal. Someone seriously could've gotten hurt, and mmarshall makes a great point about the over-glorified nature of speeding and racing. I don't mind the occasional speeding, as there are some slow drivers on the freeways here, but going that fast is unnecessary. The stupidity and lack of respect for owning a driver's license shows that some people think they're almighty and can get away with anything.

I speed on the motorways, I won't deny that. I love the feeling of speed on a big, open freeway. However, I speed in reason of the speed limit and only when it's safe to do so. I can't stand street racing, nor can I stand those idiots weaving in and out of traffic, endangering everyone around them. No one cares about your mad driving skillz. Take it to a track if you want to race.
