Next-gen Chevrolet Colorado teased in Thailand

General Motors let a sneak peek at its new global-platform Chevrolet Colorado slip ahead of the truck's official debut at the Bangkok Motor Show in Thailand. The show starts March 25, so GM is giving us just enough to get the gist of what our next-generation Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon may look like.
The General says it picked Thailand for the truck's debut because the Southeast Asian market is becoming a huge player for the automaker, and people in Thailand are buying pickups at an alarming rate. In 2010, pickups accounted for 43 percent of vehicles sold in Thailand.
The truck will be built in Thailand for global consumption, but will most likely carry over Stateside as the new Colorado/Canyon, and is being prepped by GM of Brazil for the American market.
Chevrolet Offers Sneak Peek at New Colorado Show Truck
Midsize pickup to make its global debut at Bangkok Motor Show in Thailand
DETROIT - Chevrolet today offered a sneak peek at its Colorado show truck that will officially be unveiled prior to the 32nd Bangkok International Motor Show, which begins March 25.
The show truck previews the next-generation Colorado midsize pickup truck, which will build on Chevrolet's strong truck DNA and award-winning heritage.
Thailand was chosen as the site of the global debut because of the popularity of pickup trucks and the growing importance of the Thai market to Chevrolet. In 2010, the pickup truck segment accounted for 43 percent of vehicles sold in Thailand. The new Colorado will go on sale there later this year.
"Trucks play a key role in most Southeast Asian markets," said Susan Docherty, vice president, GMIO Sales, Marketing and Aftersales. "Nowhere is this more evident than in Thailand, where trucks like the Colorado are ingrained in the local lifestyle. Thailand was a natural place to give the public a first glimpse of our all-new Colorado."
More information on the truck will be revealed at the global premiere. The public can get its first look at the Chevrolet Colorado show truck at the Bangkok International Motor Show from March 25 to April 5.

Here it is, although likely dressed up for show car purposes. Looks really good! I think Ford made a mistake discontinuing the Ranger in the US market especially when they've finally designed a good Ranger (for everyone else). Hopefully GM brings this home. If midsized trucks look this good, they'll sell.

Behold, the next-generation Chevrolet Colorado. Sort of. General Motors has yanked back the sheets on what the company is calling a show truck at the Bangkok International Motor Show. Despite the 'show' label, the mid-sizer is poised to go on sale in Thailand later this year packing a 2.8-liter turbo-diesel engine, though there are no firm details as to what we can expect in terms of either power or efficiency. GM did say that the Colorado won't leave buyers lacking for enough towing capacity, though. Odds are we can expect tricks like the 20-inch wheels and body-color tonneau cover to be nixed as the truck makes its way closer to production.
Still, the vehicle is plenty sharp and looks to have the mechanical guts to give the global Ford Ranger a run for its money. But will GM offer the Colorado we see here in the States? That's a tough question. The automaker has made it clear that the Shreveport, Louisiana plant that manufactures the aging Colorado/GMC Canyon isn't long for this world, though we have heard rumors that the automaker isn't planning on killing the pickup all together. Here's hoping we'll see this truck or something similar in the States sometime soon. Hit the jump for the full press release.

+3 on it looking like the Ridgeline. I wonder if it's still a body on frame truck.
I didn't know the Thai people were so truck crazy! I'm not sure what the roads are like in Thailand, but if they're anything like what they were like in the Philippines about 10 years ago, then I can totally see why. Comfortable seating for 5 and it can handle roads that look like they were just bombed by coalition forces!
