Interesting to hear from someone who owns two competitive cars. I tend to believe that the Genesis is a quality product. I'd have no problems at all driving one.

This is his own personal experience with the two cars through the same period of ownership... 7 months. I think that's very credible.

RX competitor eh? Main problem there is dealer service, i saw people complaining on Genesis forums that a lot of dealers are not up to the par... But you know, it is not only dealer issue, it is corporate that needs to solve that issue.

Here in Europe, my family owned both Toyota and Hyundai dealerships. At least here, focus of both companies (corporate) is radically different. With Toyota, customer satisfaction is #1 priority and 95% of training you go through is for aftersales. With Hyundai they are all about new car sales and dealer gets a lot less support when problems come. It was really night and day difference. You could escalate every tiny problem to the toyota hq and get goodwill warranty for it. You could get seat covers completely replaced on Toyota cost on 2002 Yaris as long as it is before 3 year warranty... for Hyundai, you could never ever get warranty approval for that, especially for cheap car.

Of course, this is in Europe, it might not be like that in the states, but it really is night and day difference.

Thanks for the review. As others have mentioned, am interested in seeing how the Genesis holds up a few years down the road.

I will agree with one thing the OP has to say... The GS and IS are prone to rattle. Heres a more credible report on the Genesis at 40K miles, and I'm sure C&D has put a few more miles on this car since the article was published. Hyundai is moving up, but they still have a ways to go. As i've said before, its the name that is hurting them the most. http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...ad_test_update

Yes, the IS and GS are supposedly rattle-prone. But I know that cars rated as average and below (like most GM, Chrysler, BMW, pre-08 MB cars for example) have issues and warranty repairs considerably more serious than rattles. Examples of more serious stuff (versus rattles) includes fuel pumps, brake light assemblies, electrical problems, oil leaks, power steering pump failures, differential howling, etc.

My personal experience with Lexus IS (2007 sport pkg) is 2 TSIB's, 4 recalls and zero defects/rattles so far. During the TSIB/recall visit, I've enjoyed 1st class service, Lexus loaner cars, gas fillups, car washes and recently a $500 Visa gift card.

From reliability data that I've read most Hyundai's in recent years are rated above average in reliability and therefore are in good company in this department (including Honda, Acura, Toyota, Lexus, Subaru), well done.

I think a 2-3 year old Genesis will make a great choice for a 25K budget. You get a luxurious ride and great styling for around the same price as an Accord or Camry. Hyundai has made great stride in the past 3 years and they're definitely on the up and up.

for me its the dealership experience that would make me stick with Lexus for now. I am still in awe when I leave. The quality of service and attention to detail are really really impressive. I have my eye on Hyundai

I'd be surprised if a 3 year old Genesis with 45K was still worth $25k, personally. Time will tell.

i am not sure what does that mean, check fizzboys post and dealer/corp not doing anything about issues the car has.

what does that have to do with how often you go to the dealer for oil change? oil change is never the issue.

Always interesting to hear how these things are aging, the paralells between the genesis/equus & GS/LS are fairly persistant. Does it look to have the long term longevity of the early series LS from good engineering? Or did you buy it with a shorter term view?

yes, service isn't about when things go right, it's about when things go wrong!

a relationship can be made or broken at those times.

my lexus dealer did it right, or then made it right.

If the crap Ford and GM make can suddenly have a turnaround, and have better projected resale value in 3 years, Im sure Hyundai will be no different

Thanks this well help my dad out....he wants the GS350 but has had one eye on the Genesis Sedan for a while now lol. He's still not sold "because of the name", and yeah it won't be worth as much in 3 years...but he's not realizing it has a 10 year/100k warranty and he usually keeps his cars till they don't drive anymore haha
