Default where is the cost of a dealer call heading,,??

wife has a VW bug and it had a check engine light,, headed to an Auto Parts store for a reading, was the emission and he would not reset,,

made an appointment with the local VW dealer and the wife just called from the shop,, they charge $120 to just get in the door and then parts, labor & time on top of that,,

time for me to purchase a good code reader and fine a local mechanic,,

Every dealer, whether they choose to waive it or not, charges 1 hour for a diagnostic fee. Since each dealer sets there own rate, choosing another dealer might be a slight bit cheaper. It might be more cost effective to find a local VW specialist.

I would take no car that is out of warranty to a dealer, period. You need to find a very good indy shop, preferrably one that specializes in your specific vehicle.

I had a check engine on my 4runner recently and Advance Auto read it for me for free.

Spend $120 on a code reader and do some research on the vw forums. Could be as simple as a loose gas cap or an oxygen sensor.

you should borrow the reader instead of asking them to use it. Say the car is at home and you wont drive it with unknown codes. Then you can erase the codes and see if they come back.
