Infographic: Gas is still cheap

Nationwide, motorists are shelling out an average of $3.55 per gallon of petrol. That's a lot more cash than you were paying last year at this time, but – stop us if you've heard this one before – an interesting graphic from Good shows that gas is a real bargain compared to other liquids we consume every day.

For example, a gallon of freshly brewed coffee from Starbucks will set you back $32. Move up from coffee to Guinness and you're looking at doubling your tally to $64 for every 128 ounces consumed. We know you won't be shocked that Dom Perignon is $755 per gallon, but did you know that nail polish is $1,015 for the same portion size? If you want a consumable with comparable per-gallon pricing, you'll have to pick up some Coca-Cola, which retails for $3.84 per gallon.

These charts are so out whack. What they fail to factor the quantity of the item in use. No-one here will drink 20 gallons of milk a week. No-one is going to use any of these products the same amount as gasoline. This chart is full of it to say that gas is still 'cheaper'.

Ounce for ounce, gallon for gallon. It is cheaper. Yes. But I don't drink a gallon of coffee lol.

Yes that's correct, but it's a moot point to compare it to the price of those other products. Unless someone were to use those other products in the same quantity as gas, THEN the argument would hold merit.

I would gladly pay 20 bucks per gallon for gas if my car burns gas as much as I use tide lol

If my car could be driven for a few months on just one gallon of gas, then I'd say gas is still cheap.

I don't buy twenty gallons of orange juice or coffee, so the chart sounds dumb.

As soon as gas climbs, everything else gets more expensive. So essentially, everything on that chart should increase in price at an even ratio (give or take).

Who the hell's paying $6.04 for a gallon of milk??

I don't pay more than $2.99 a gallon.

I agree the comparisons are flawed, but certainly, there's numerous liquid products that are very much over priced. Gas is definitely not over priced for what it is. People seem willing to pay $1.50 for a 16 oz bottle of water but complain about $3.50/gal gas. I would say being in the water and soda business is much more of a "profiteering" business than gas is. Seriously, why does soda cost more than gasoline?

Only thing I hate about gas prices going up is the domino effect of all the daily items that slowly follow with price increases

People who perceive commodities prices like this shouldn't be allowed to create and publish charts...

Not the best way to show that gas is cheap.

I pay ~$10 for 17,000 gallons of water a month. How's that for comparable?

But to take that further - add some sugar to it, which is ~$0.30 a pound, and suddenly it can be sold back to me for $3.84 a gallon.

Keep in mind it doesn't take multi-million dollar investments to make soda.

I hate charts like this!!! There is no alternative to gas/fuel for the most of us! I can skip coffee, red bull, milk and etc..... Show me how tO not use gas and be efficient (get to work/errands) and I might care about these comparisons.

lol, are they shopping at whole foods or something? those prices are ridiculous.

gallon of raw honey at costco is ~$15
gallon of milk is ~$3.00
gallon of monster energy drinks(8 x 500ml) is ~$8. same thing as red bull.
store brand bleach is between $1 sometimes per gallon.
