I agree on both counts. Flood-damaged cars are a far more significant risk, right now, than some cars with radioactive parts. And never mind the cell-phone.......just sitting in front of computer screens every day like many of us do exposes us to more radiation (still, only a very small amount) than we have to worry about from the Fukushima reactor, or even car-parts, reaching us here in the U.S..

I don't expect that any flood-damaged cars will be put into US inventory from any of the major Japanese automakers, there is no significant risk. Those cars will be destroyed to eliminate the possibility of that happening, these are mature companies with good business practices.

Yes, I noticed I was getting a suntan from my radio in my Lexus.

Or maybe because my sunroof was open...

One would hope so. I agree that Japanese companies are generally reputable, but, even the stellar Japanese auto industry has had its share of questionable or shady buisness practices, especially at Mitsubishi, where several high-ranking execs went to prison.

Are any American-badged vehicles, that you know of, built in Japanese plants owned and operated by American companies in the same way that Hondas, Toyotas, Mazdas, Nssans, etc..... are built here in the U.S.? GM, of course, has several plants in China (primarily Buick)....I'm not sure about Japan.

Agreed, because I don't consider Mitsubishi to be one of the major Japanese automakers, (unlike Toyota, Honda, Nissan for example being major automakers).

Not aware of any American-badged vehicles built in Japan these days.

People will see a report or read some loony article on Japanese vehicles and radiation and it will scare some into not buying a Japanese brand.American build included.

OMG! Radiation is not a disease and it'll not infect.

Well, just so it isn't emitted by the foam used in seat bottom cushions...

I'm more concerned with minimizing xray exposure in medical/dental situations over the years.

Since the US has stepped up the monitor radiation of cargo coming to US ports from the events of Japan, so fear of goods should not be much of a problem.

I watched on the new on Kiro 7 news a while ago that the port of Seattle detected radiation on a cargo ship from South Korea. The radiation was only contained to the engine’s air filter for the ship – the filter had since been replaced with a new one. Officials say, if I recall correctly it was likely the filter to get the contamination considering the air filter's size for the ship.

As for the crew and cargo, they came out clean and were allowed to unload the cargo and be on their way.
