Makes a lot of sense for Jag to make the XF look more like the new XJ. Took a beautiful car and made it better. Hint to Lexus.

Agreed - looks very similar to the original concept. This is how it should have been from the beginning.

Thanks. I prefer the base model, the front end of the XF-R is too heavy, those huge side air dams ruin the sleekness.

Thankfully one of the best looking and most sleek sedan rooflines remains unchanged.

Me too, base one is just like C-XF. Almost perfection.

Check out what they did with the tailights they made em bigger to accommodate the only element that looks outdated and bad on XF and that it thick beltline in C pillar. Back beltline comes straight off the concept but it makes the car look bubbly because its roofline is not as angled and thin as on C-XF. So they masked it with bigger taillights, nice. Also I love that Audi effect on them.

This is a facelift! I hope other manufacturers are taking notes.

Yup. Ian Callum, Jags' head designer who did the XF and did the past Astons loves the GS. He has openly praised it and has been interviewed about the GS/XF similarity before.

Funny people bash the hell out of Lexus for copying but not Jaguar. Another lame double standard against Lexus.

One final question on the XF. What do you say to criticisms it looks like the Lexus GS?

Nobody was more surprised than we were. I like the GS. I think the proportions of that car are better than many other exec cars. I'm not wild about the detailing though. But they went through the same process we’ve gone through. That car came out nine months before our car – but our design was finished when the GS was launched. Nobody was more surprised to see that similarity (if there is any) than we were. There’s no plagiarism there, it’s just coincidence. But, hey, they did a good job.
GS debuted much earlier than 9 months before the XF. The XF was a concept when the GS was being sold.

^No kidding. Jaguar C-XF concept debuted in January 2007 at NAIAS. Production 3GS debuted in March 2004 at the Geneva show.

For your information, Ian, that is...34 months, not 9
