I hate how governments worldwide screw with the market place, notably the auto market with outrageous tax policies.

As bad as America has gotten with taxes in our lives, they've left cars equal in the marketplace with a flat rate state sales tax (same rate as any other product you buy that is taxed). In my state, 6.25% for example. No matter if I buy a Yaris or a Lexus, it's 6.25%. Other countries punish those that want anything bigger than a compact, or anything with power. The only exception in the US, is the gas guzzler tax which is usually only on the most powerful, most expensive models anyway and is already built into the window sticker price. That tax makes no difference for those that can afford such a car.

But to tax a simple mainstream Camry out of the market? That's ridiculous.

Government knows best though, right?

The Smart car was a bad car to start with. Its more of a go-kart than a car.

The Fiat is nothing alike, and they plan on bringing other models and possibly Alfa Romeo if the 500 has any sort of success.
