Nice garage but no no on the LS1. A ferrari should be kept pure. It's magical... like a unicorn.
You don't capture a unicorn, cut its magical horn off and throw a pair of bull's horns on it to make it more fearsome.

Look, I wouldn't swap out a Chevy engine for a perfectly good Ferrari motor. But if the engine blew or had some other serious issues, why not transplant a more reliable but powerful powerplant? I would tune down the exhaust to sound less like the typical muscle car but I would definitely do it.
This isn't a new Ferrari. It's 3 models past, 360-430-458. I see no reason why not to do it.
That unicorn stuff, these are cars. If the Ferrari engine were more reliable and easier to maintain, this would not not be a consideration. Obviously, this car has been driven a lot. A well used F-car engine will cost as much as a new car to keep. Nope, I like this move. The LS1 will provide just as much excitement, if driving like a banshee is in your blood.
Plus, I am from the muscle car era and these engines are part of my boyhood.

Why not transplant a more powerful Chevy power plant? Simple. Because then it's no longer a Ferrari. It's a Chevy with a Ferrari shell. There's nothing wrong with the LS1 motor. It's a monstrous engine. But keep a Ferrari, a Ferrari. Save the LS1 for some other project car.
Besides, a Ferrari isn't meant to be your dd. It's not about being reliable and cheap to maintain. It's a weekend showoff car. It's about being a part of an elite group of people fortunate enough to own one. If you're concerned about the reliability and maintenance cost of a Ferrari, you shouldn't have one. Most people who purchase a Ferrari could care less.
