wow. already another month.

ES is stable. RX still strong.

can't make any conclusions about the CT, with just 875 sold.
preorders are out of the way, and short supply from earthquake? They said that production resumed on March 29.
will have to see May sales to determine any trend. May should be a hot month for all car brands, with holidays and such

Soundbites: April 2011 Sales

DEARBORN, Mich., May 3, 2011 – Consumer demand for Ford’s fuel-efficient vehicles continues to grow, with April sales increasing 16% versus a year ago and year-to-date sales up 16% – totaling 686,498 vehicles.

“With gasoline prices eclipsing $3.90 a gallon, consumers are placing an even higher priority on fuel efficiency in every size and kind of vehicle,”
said Ken Czubay, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. “Ford’s plan to lead in fuel efficiency is saving our customers money at the pump and helping us to profitably grow our business.”

Ford offers 12 vehicles that lead their sales segments in fuel economy, including four vehicles with EPA certified 40 mpg or higher ratings – a claim no other full-line automaker can match.

Cars
Ford dealers have two all-new small cars in their showrooms that are resonating with consumers. For the second month in a row, sales for Ford’s new Fiesta eclipsed 9,000. The all-new 2012 Focus also is selling briskly. Focus sales totaled 17,265, up 22 percent versus a year ago.

Fusion set a new April record with sales of 21,189, up 12% versus a year ago.

The Ford Mustang (up 59%) and Lincoln MKZ (up 40%) also posted higher sales than a year ago.

Utilities
Sales of Ford’s utility vehicles were paced by the all-new Ford Explorer, which had its best April since 2006.

Explorer sales totaled 12,593, up 138% and, for the fourth straight month, Explorer continues to be the fastest-turning vehicle in the Ford showroom.

Explorer’s class-leading EPA estimated highway fuel economy of 25 mpg is attracting owners of other makes. Its current conquest rate is 43%.

The Escape set a new April sales record with sales of 21,240, up 11% versus a year ago. Sales of the new Ford Edge (up 4%) and Lincoln MKX (up 16%) also were higher.

Trucks
Strong sales to commercial fleet customers powered Ford truck sales growth in April. Sales of Ford’s F-Series truck totaled 45,435, up 11 percent versus a year ago.

In January, Ford launched the 2011 F-150 with 4 all-new powertrains including two V6s – a 3.7-liter and a 3.5-liter EcoBoost. In April, V6-equipped F-150s accounted for 50% of all 2011 F-150 retail sales, up from 40% in March. The EcoBoost engine accounts for almost 75% of the V6 rate.

“The EcoBoost engine is the right engine for the right time,” said Czubay. “It provides the industry’s only ‘no compromise’ solution, delivering both the capability and fuel efficiency truck buyers really want.”

Ford’s commercial vehicles also posted year-to-year increases. Econoline sales totaled 11,611 (up 14%) and Transit Connect sales were 2,668 (up 20%).

Sales Summary
In April, total sales were 189,778, up 16%. Retail sales were up 10 percent and fleet sales were up 31% (commercial was up 33 percent, government grew 10%, and daily rental increased 39%).

Year-to-date, total sales were 686,498, up 16%. Retail sales were up 17% and fleet sales were up 14% (commercial was up 33%, government grew 11%, and daily rental increased 2%).

Continuing a trend seen in the first quarter, the largest increase in retail sales for the Ford brand was in California, where the new Fiesta, Focus and Explorer are helping Ford to attract new customers. In April, Ford brand retail sales were up 34% in California and up 37% year-to-date.

“Customers are rewarding us for delivering the vehicles people truly want and value – with the technologies they want and fuel-economy they need,” Czubay said. “This is good news for our customers, Ford dealers and our business.”

^^^ Completely. Dealers literally have no cars to sell. Lexus really botched up forecasting and demand with it even before the quake. They could even sell more HSs if there were more to sell.

Toyota/Nissan/Honda made it out decent b/c of older inventory. May, June, July might get ugly (as for other Japanese brands)

Thank you GS69 for the info and the effort!

Chevrolet Cruze posts best month since launch with 25,160 total sales
GMC Terrain, Chevrolet Equinox set April sales records
Retail sales rose 25 percent for April; up 35 percent year to date
Incentives decline more than 10 percent while retail sales rise 4 percent from March

DETROIT – General Motors dealers in the United States reported 232,538 total sales in April, a 27-percent increase versus April a year ago. Solid gains by GM’s lineup of fuel-efficient passenger cars and crossovers powered the gains, led by the best sales month for the Chevrolet Cruze and record sales for the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain compact crossovers.

Retail sales, those to individual customers, rose 25 percent versus last April with cars and crossovers up 49 percent and 28 percent, respectively. Retail sales for the Cruze were 180 percent higher than the Chevrolet Cobalt it replaced. The Equinox and Terrain also posted retail sales records, up 53 and 61 percent respectively.

With gasoline averaging almost $4 per gallon, consumers are beginning to trade in larger vehicles for smaller, more fuel efficient ones.

“Recently, rising fuel prices have led many to re-think their vehicle choice,” said Don Johnson, vice president, U.S. Sales Operations. “Because of the investments we’ve made in fuel-efficiency and global product architectures, the company is well positioned to meet these needs.”

During the first quarter of 2011, the company’s retail share of the small, compact and compact crossover segments improved by an estimated 3.4 full share points, compared to the first quarter of 2010. Much of this improvement is due to improved availability of the popular Equinox and Terrain and the launch of the all-new Cruze.

Compared to March, retail sales rose 4 percent though incentive spending decreased more than 10 percent, Johnson said.

April deliveries to commercial accounts rose 21 percent – the 13th consecutive month of commercial sales gains.

GM’s Newest Vehicles Retail Sales Soar 76 Percent in April

Combined retail sales for vehicles launched since June 2009 – Chevrolet Equinox, Silverado HD, Cruze, Camaro Convertible and Volt; Buick LaCrosse and Regal; GMC Sierra HD and Terrain; and Cadillac SRX, CTS Wagon and CTS Coupe – jumped 76 percent during April and are up 76 percent for the year through April.

Passenger Cars

Total sales of GM passenger cars improved 50 percent during April, led by the sale of 25,160 Cruzes and 24,701 Chevrolet Malibus. Retail sales of GM passenger cars climbed 49 percent for the month. The Cruze and Chevrolet Camaro Convertible recorded their highest retail sales since launch. For the year-to-date, retail sales of GM’s passenger cars were up 49 percent, also led by the Cruze, up 195 percent for the year compared to the Chevrolet Cobalt.

Crossovers

The Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac brands each set April total and retail sales records for crossover sales, driven by a 49-percent increase in combined retail sales by the Equinox, Terrain and SRX. The three also set individual April records for retail sales. For the year-to-date, retail sales of GM’s industry-leading crossovers were up 29 percent.

Pickups

Total combined sales of Chevrolet Silverado and Avalanche, and GMC Sierra increased 2 percent; with retail sales down 2 percent versus a year ago. For the year-to-date, retail sales for GM’s full-size pickups are up 26 percent, while total sales of 172,070 units represent a 22-percent increase.

Month-end dealer inventory in the United States stood at about 577,000 units, up about 3,000 units compared to March and about 149,000 higher than April 2010.

Audi today added to its 2011 momentum story with record-setting April U.S. sales of 10,018 luxury vehicles. Sales for the most recent month surpassed the prior April record set in 2010 of 9,319 vehicles, or 7.5%.

Through the 1st 4 months of 2011, Audi sales increased 15.6% to 35,401 vehicles. The record April 2011 results follow the best first quarter in company history as the automaker enjoyed a steady quarter-over-quarter sales increase of nearly 20%, compared to the previous period in 2010. April 2011 sales not only marked the fourth-straight monthly record for 2011, but also the third time in company history where vehicles sales exceeded 10,000 units in a given month.

The strong results were buoyed by the continued strong public response to the 2011 Audi A8 flagship model, which set a sales increase of 519.8% from a year earlier. Another big factor came from the recent introduction of the all-new 2012 Audi A7. Additionally, clean diesel sales continued to reflect the surging demand for fuel-efficient models as the Audi A3 TDI® and the Audi Q7 TDI accounted for 61% and 47% in their vehicle lines, respectively.

Audi models have already earned significant awards in the U.S., including the Edmunds.com Technology Breakthrough Award to the 2011 Audi A8, four category winners in the Strategic Vision 2010 Total Value Index and the EyesOn Design “Best Production Vehicle” awarded to the 2012 Audi A6, which is scheduled to arrive this Fall.

In April 2011, Audi recorded year-over-year sales increases with six of its models: the Audi A3, the Audi A4, the Audi A8, Audi Q5, Audi Q7, and the Audi R8. Audi Q7 full-size luxury crossover sales posted a 24.2% increase over April 2010 sales.

“With Audi sales and customer awareness at record levels the time has never been more important for our brand to surprise and delight the discriminating luxury consumers we are attracting,” said Audi of America President Johan de Nysschen. “It is essential to accomplish this with the fervor we will employ to bring even more exceptionally engineered models to market.”

Fit & CR-V sold big! CR-Z had a big lift.

Nissan is selling tons of older Sentras. Wowl
Infinit M has completely flopped, its been out a year and selling horridly
I was expecting a bigger drop for Toyota last month.

Mainstream media reports that in late April, 2 year old Prius is now only 1.6k cheaper than new model :-)... so >20k for 2 year old Prius... they are... appreciating.

BMW SAV sales lead the way, up 65%

MINI rockets forward, sales up 67.7% - Best Month Ever

WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., May 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The BMW Group in the U.S. (BMW and MINI combined) reported April sales of 25,247 vehicles, an increase of 19.6 percent from the 21,111 vehicles sold in the same month a year ago.

Year-to-date, BMW Group is up 18.4% on sales of 90,204 in the 1st 4 months of 2011 compared to 76,162 in the same period in 2010.

BMW Brand Sales

Sales of BMW brand vehicles increased 8.9% in April for a total of 18,801 compared to 17,268 vehicles sold in April, 2010.

Lincoln, Lexus, Infiniti and Chrysler are the only nameplates that failed to boast improved sales in April of 2011 when compared to the same period 1 year ago. Besides those Debbie Downers, things are looking pretty darn good for automakers in the United States.

We're awfully curious to see what the impending summer selling seasons will have in store for Japanese automakers as they continue to claw back production lost due to the devastating earthquake and tsunami that ravaged the country just weeks ago, but for now, it seems no shortages have yet to significantly impact any sales figures.

Breaking individual model sales out a bit yields some interesting results. For instance, the Chevrolet Cruze, with 25,160 sales, outsold the Toyota Corolla (24,215) but fell about a thousand units shy of the class-leading Honda Civic (26,777).

The Ford brand also outsold Chevrolet, for those interested in that age-old American bragging right, but perhaps more interesting is the stunning success at Buick. With 18,413 total sales, Buick managed to outsell Lexus (again) and is knocking hard on the doors of such luxury stalwarts as BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

There were a number of heavily redesigned models that boasted huge gains over their predecessors, such as the Volkswagen Jetta (16,955 total sales, a 74-percent increase) and the Jeep Compass (4,050) and Grand Cherokee (9,802), which each outsold their 2010 counterparts by over 180%.

In all, the top 18 performers each posted double-digit sales gains in April of 2011. Impressive performances, to be sure. Check out all the numbers in our handy-dandy chart below.

hot damn.

the infiniti M is quickly becoming irrelevant. AND they had 1.9-2.9% incentives for it too.

if lexus does not German-ize (no crazy grilles and polarizing styling) the 4GS, it will suffer the same fate too.
