Thumbs up So the Camry was #1 in sales again last month...

So last month the media declared the end was near since the Altima had outsold the Camry for the first time last month. Never mind it offers a coupe and sedan. There was no mention that Nissan's incentives were so high in March you could buy one trading in a pack of bubble gum, putting down a carton of milk, and pay less for one than your cable bill. The how's and why's are never asked.

No instead we got the usual Toyota death drama.

Well in April the Camry was 1st again with 30k units. The Altima? It didn't even crack the top ten, it sold 17k units last month.

I won't hold my breathe for the media to mention this at all.

People also mentioned the Camry would die when the Sonata debuted. Again that hasn't come close to happening. Let us not forget the Camry is in its last model year and old compared to everything else.

Ahhh the Camry, the continued standard of its class that keeps chugging along, getting every insult at the book hurled at it by the internet legion of doom and it keeps selling and making OWNERS happy.

The Camry....kicking *** and still taking names

This month will be interesting.
No $1K manufacturer to dealer incentive or 0% financing.

Everyone has cut back incentives due to the quake (Japanese brands)....not sure will American/Euro take advantage and offer more incentives or scale them back as well..

I would think they would keep the incentives to gain share.
We'll see.

They had a lot of Camry's on dealers lots so they were not as affected by quake, yet... thats getting less and less and dealers will be less willing to deal as well, so I would expect next month you will see drop in sales for sure, and then expect full media attention.

Not to mention Prius, that was at 10 day supply at the end of the April, which means no Priis on lots.

2 year old Prii's now sell at only 2k discount compared to brand new models.

I think my 2011 Camry SE is the BEST buy in the LOW 20's, paid $21.5k for 2011 with 5 miles on it. We love it so much that we bought 2 in one weeks......

The Camry is the best in it's class. No doubt about it. I just can't get over the ugly silver trimming on the interior.

There's plenty of doubt about it. Consumer Reports (a publication I respect very much) now rates the Camry fifth overall in the family-sedan class...behind the Altima, Accord, Sonata, and Legacy.

That....and the wobbly center-dash *****, on the manual-climate-control version, that feel like they are going to come off in your hands every time you grip them.

I'm not saying that the Camry is a piece of junk, though....far from it. It's not, by any means....and it is still considered a pretty good car. But it clearly is not the quality/reliability icon it was 10-20 years ago.

Some of those Camry buyers, though, may be living in the past. Even if it does regain first-place in the sales department (which it might), the car is not the icon it once was.......Consumer Reports now rates it fifth, overall, in the family-sedan class.

you should apply for a freelance job at some of the blog sites.

then you could remind the world how nissan failed big last month.

Well done Camry, given the challenging circumstances. I really don't care what the CR numerical rating/ranking is when selecting a car, obviously the real paying consumers don't either. The internet with pointless blather is always another story...

I have to agree. The car is a bit dated and will get a much needed generation change soon. The Camry has a lot of competition.....fresh competition

I'm eager to see what the 2012 or 2013 model of Camry may look like.

The Camry leases for 169 a month, that has made me think about getting one, who can turn that down, and they offer 1.9% financing for even those with bad credit
