Autocar: Lexus CT200h vs Audi A3 1.6 TDI vs BMW 320d ED vs Volvo S40 1.6

Wow that 320d holds itself up pretty well to the competition in regards to performance and efficiency. Despite the higher price, the 320d would be my pick followed by the CT200, The A3 1.3 and then the S40. Volvo is in desperate need of an overhaul for their small sedan

All the others are much older than the CT so I can't really consider them. I'm very happy with the experience of hybrid ownership and the CT delivers familar Lexus qualities.
2nd for me is actually the Volvo, I just love the way it looks inside and out. Then I'd with the the A3 and the BMW very long name car last.

... and i realize what happened here, they used base prices but drove optioned out cars. Matching equipment for 320d is 33.5k, obviously considerably more than CT200h.
I wonder why didnt they use 1 series? I guess it doesnt have ED version?

BMW 116d ED: £19,800, 118 CO2 g/km, 62.8 mpg (combined), 116-horsepower, 0-62 mph in 10.3 seconds.
That car should have been included. But still, the larger, heavier and more powerful 320d ED performed impressively in this test. And it's the only RWD car here which would put it at a "fuel economy disadvantage" against its FWD competitors here - and yet it still impresses with amazing fuel economy.

Seemed pretty fair and even to me. There was no indication that they were trying to dislike it. The CT's reviews have been consistent in that most say it succeeds acceptably as a hybrid but has a choppy ride and falters as a driver's car.
