Back in 2008, Chevy whipped the Corvette ZR1 around the Nurburgring in an impressive 7:26.4 seconds. Impressive, yes, but the Nissan GT-R was tweaked for 2012 and set a time more than two seconds faster.
And now the 2012 Chevy Corvette, wearing super-sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires, has accepted the challenge and shaved SIX seconds off of that 7:26.4 run. Follow the jump to see what 7:19.63 looks like. There are quite a few Nurburgring videos where an eye, honed from Forza, can spot some areas where the driver could have manned-up and found another half-second...I'm not seeing that here.
Oh, and just in case you were wondering, the car is being driven by Corvette engineer Jim Mero -- same guy who set the 7:26.

SCCA sectionals next weekend at Road America... we've got passes for all 4 days... hoping my friend in Chicago comes up in his ZR1 and I can take it out Friday....

Sounds about right. I will admit the better work to match this. The GTR is a much heavier car with less power. Then again it has always kind of defied the laws of physics
