2011 Toyota Yaris - $13,155
2012 Scion iQ - $15,995
What would you choose?
True the 2012 Yaris is coming out sometime this year, probably be around the same price as the current one.

For a second car in a family, i would get IQ every time. If I need space for four, i would get Yaris of course.
In Europe, iQ's pricing is actually a lot more than comparable Yaris - for instance 2011 Yaris you mention does not have same equipment, and i bet if you equip it the same, it will be same price for both.
So US got some adjusted pricing compared to Europe.

Doesn't the iQ approach the 45-50mpg mark? Don't think a gas yaris is going to be much over 40mpg.
It's a shame though that the Yaris is seemingly going to be had with the 2 generations old NZ engine when they should be migrating to the ZR motor.

Toyota has an Aygo, which is one size bigger than iQ, has 5 doors and some trunk. It would probably cost not more than $9995 in the USA. (in my country base Aygo cost half of what base iQ costs). But it is nothing like iQ.
If you value car by its lenght, iQ never stands a chance.

UK specs and pricing released, as well as European pics.
Lets have it out:
- ESP and 5 airbags standard. Heated door mirros with lamps, sports wheel and adjustable height seat. Soft plastics.
- Toyota Touch Multimedia system standard in 3 out of 4 models, only base that has no radio or AC doesnt get it (fleet one). It has USB/Ipod, Bluetooth phone/music, Trip info and rearview camera STANDARD, + for 500 you can buy $ Go part which makes it Entune - adds nav and apps, including google local search.
- Version with red stitching is Sports one. Gets 17" wheels, blacked out windows, sport suspension and steering, perforated steering wheel.
- Best version has panoramic roof, dual auto air, smart entry, half leather seats and dual color interior.

Pricing is about the same as old model, despite added equipment. Around 5%-7% more economical with same engines as before (all new lineup was introduced in MY2009).
It seems Toyota got some new colors, this hue of blue and red were not previously available, look really good (confirmed it is different color for sure)

lets compare mpg to competition:
Polo 1.2 60 HP : 51.4 MPG
Polo 1.2 70 HP : 51.4 MPG
Yaris 1.0l 68 HP : 58.9 MPG
Polo 1.2TSI 105HP : 53.3 MPG
Polo 1.4 85HP : 47.9 MPG
Yaris 1.33 100HP : 52.3/56.5 MPG * Model with CVT + start/stop
1.2 TDI 75 HP : 72.4 MPG
1.2 BlueMotion 75 :80.7 MPG / * start/stop, much higer price
1.6l TDI 90 HP : 65.7 MPG
Yaris 1.4D4d 90 HP : 72.4 MPG
Not bad :-). Would anyone think Yaris Diesel gets much better mpg compared to normal 1.6l TDI plus it is also faster 0-62?

That is pretty awesome for a small car. The panoramic roof and all the features. Wow.

Great pics!
I'm liking it more and more.
You can count on much of what we see here though, the US won't see. Of course.
Panoramic roof, leather wrapped wheel, back up camera, ect...

Even if the US doesn't get the more fancy features, the US will however get the improved quality of the new generation, and the improved interior. Expensive features in small cars don't really sell well in the US anyways.
Looks better and better in these new shots.

I always stress that point myself. Everyone complains that our US versions of small cars get shafted, but the reality is Americans generally don't pay premium prices for sub-compacts. That however, seems to be changing a bit as Ford is offering loaded to the brim Fiestas and Focuses. It's likely though, that the top tier models will sell slowly. Americans almost always just buy bigger as their budget grows since we have plenty of space and cheap gas compared to Europe/Asia/ect...

What mileage does the iQ get in europe compared to the current or future Yaris?
