Toyota/Gazoo Racing Sport Hybrid Concept II (MR2 Hybrid?!)

According to the following report the total output of the Concept II is only 295hp this time, with the 3.5L V6, driving the rear wheels, detuned to 245hp, and the electric motor driving the front wheels. Still decent I guess, if they can keep the weight down.

2GR-FXE - Atkinson cycle 2GR engine (Toyota's hybrid vehicle gasoline engines run on the more efficient but lower-power Atkinson cycle i.e. 2GR-FE "detuned" down to 245hp) driving the REAR wheels, whereas Highlander Hybrid has this on the front wheels
4WD-i - "4WD with Intelligence" driving the FRONT wheels, whereas Highlander Hybrid has this on the rear wheels (The Highlander Hybrid 4WD model does not have the typical AWD/4WD system where a prop-shaft runs from the front transmission to the rear axle, but it has the detached electric motor driving the rear wheels only)

What you guys think they will do with this concept?
Maybe a test mule for the LF-LC? Or perhaps a new model for the Lexus brand. The Lexus line up is missing a Z4, SLK, Boxster and F-Type figher. Cr Toyota could just be bored and wanted to build something cool for the hell of it. Let the speculating begin.

It is, but Toyota have been working on that concept platform (Mid-engined, Hybrid AWD) for ages. It started as the Alessandro Volta concept in 2004, then became a mule built on an MR-S chassis that was in testing at the nurburgring. A couple years ago, it became a Gazoo concept, and finally so far, this.
One has to wonder what Toyota is up to.
