+1 on the new CLS, but I am biased (full disclosure) as that is what I bought a few weeks ago. Beautiful to look at, both interior and exterior IMHO, and very very fast. A relative bargain too compared to other new cars in this segment. Coupe styling with room for 4 comfortably, unless you are a basketball player.

Looked at Panamera S and Audi A7 but didn't like the rear end styling of either, nor the relative performance of the A7 nor the price of a comparable Pan S. I would wait on the 911 until next year as a big upgrade is on the way, not that it isn't great now.

I cannot get over the out of pocket costs of a 5 year old AMG car vs a brand new one, that alone would make my decision. You can almost bet the AMG is going to cost you something in repairs vs not having to think about it with the new car.

Why would the NSX be impractical as a daily driver? All the other cars listed are 2 (or 2+2) seaters right? Is it the rear engine set up? I'd say get that... probably easier on the wallet to maintain AND purchase too. But if not... 911. Pretty reliable out of all of those I'd say.

I would pick the 911 myself. Though all 3 cars seem to be for a more mature audience then myself.

I like the Jag XK. Or, if you can find one, an old XKE, the most gorgeous body style ever made.

I would choose SL55 AMG of course get warranty with it if you can. Hard top convertible is sexy and torque from it will put a smile on your face everytime.

I'd go with the 911. All things considered, it's one of the best buys in the enthusiast market. Sport, good looks, performance and daily drivability. Reliability is said to be much improved from the past. I'd buy a warranty for up to 100K miles and drive the heck out of it.

I'm partial to the XK but this new model, I don't like the bumper air vents. The 2011 model looks better to me. I still hear horror stories about Jag reliability so it has dropped on my list.

The SL isn't bad but I still have nightmares over my past Benz experiences so it's hard for me to recommend them to someone I don't dislike.

You had an SL500; SL55 is pretty similar except with gobs more torque. Why not try something different and get the Jag? Except bump it up a notch and get a 2010+ XKR. It's a rocket like the SL55 but feels more nimble.

depends on which sl500 he had. if it's the previous gen, it's quite different
