2012 es???
This forum is filled with information and commentary regarding the '12 Camry, including the just released pics from the Toyota dealer meeting. However, there is no mention whatsoever of the '12 ES. So does anyone have any details about this car? Like when does it go on sale? The only thing I know about it is that there will be a hybrid model called the ES300h.

The current Camry was unveiled at NAIAS in January 2006. The ES followed shortly after in February 2006. By this logic we should see a new ES shortly after the Camry is unveiled (if the new ES is even based on the Camry), but who knows. Toyota has kept the Camry under wraps very well until now, and they could be doing the same with the Lexus model, which we may not hear about until very close to launch.

I always thought that it wouldn't be a bad idea for the GS and the ES to share the same RWD platform, with the ES (rebadged from Mark X instead of Camry) being the more sedate offering battling against the E-Class, and the GS being the more dynamic one fighting the 5-series. In the mean time, improve the HS and make it the new ES so they still have something to offer to those who want cheap FWD luxury.

Maybe I'm nuts, but I think that interior shot looks good because of the fact that it has fabric instead of leather.
I'd like to see better quality fabrics being an option instead of companies defaulting to leather as the de facto choice for "luxury".

I don't think the ES and GS would ever share platforms. Currently, the GS shares a platform with the IS, and the LS gets its own platform. The ES and RX share a platform, along with other Toyota products. The GS should only share a platform either with the IS, or GS. It's been rumored for years that the RX and ES might share their own unique platform. In a way, the RX now has it's own pseudo-unique platform. The front half of the platform it shares with the Camry and ES and other Toyota products, but the rear half of the current RX is a new design, including the double wishbone rear suspension.
I bet that the next-gen ES probably gets the same double wishbone rear suspension as the RX, to differentiate it from Toyota products/platforms and to bring it in line with the current RX.
