Looking to engrave a phrase onto a high-quality metal license plate frame for my grandpa's 75th birthday. So far the only ones I've come across are the kind where its engraved on a strip of plastic and superglued to the frame. I'm looking to get something high-quality, durable, and long-lasting; it should resemble something to the OEM frames. Example:

You can always get a blank license plate and go to a shop that does engraving. I did that once when I needed a custom message on a license plate for someone's birthday. It turned out beautiful, but also pretty pricey.

I've always wondered about getting one of these. The link caddyowner posted is the only one I've ever seen that looked like an OEM license plate.

I ordered two of the frames from Gunther Gifts back in 2004 - hard chrome and polished and sealed brass. They are both heavy brass frames. The hard chrome frame held up pretty well, despite the bottom rubbing against my truck's bumper and Michigan road salt. The brass colored frame did not hold up so well to the salt. It doesn't appear that they offer the brass colored one any longer.
