BMW prices Performance Edition 135i and 335i upgrades for U.S. at just $550

BMW is about to make current and future 1 and 3 Series sedan owners happy. At least, the ones seeking a tick more performance. The automaker is now offering the BMW Performance Edition as a a limited-availability option package on 2011 335i sedans. It will also be made available to existing 135i and 335i customers beginning later in the year.

The BMW Performance Edition is comprised of a power kit, a pair of blacked-out kidneys for the nose and a BMW Performance Edition badge. The grille treatment and badge are a nice touch, but it's the power kit that holds the meat of the group. Engine output is raised from 300 to 320 horsepower and from 300 to 317 pound-feet of torque for manual-transmission equipped cars and 332 lb-ft for the automatics.

The best part? Checking this option on your order form will only run you an extra $550. That figure is for new cars, while the retrofitted price plan will come out later in the year.

Very nice if your BMW is a lease, like most.

Why not just make it standard? This is a no brainer for $550.

$550 for 20 more hp/tq? Can't you chip a 335i to 400 hp for a few hundred dollars more?

smart marketing move by BMW. with the new F30 3 series sedan not far away, this is the stimulant they need to move the current 3 series sedans off the lot.

not true at all. 335is is only offered in coupes, and this performance edition is for the e90 sedans only. also the biggest advantage of the 335is over this is it has the 7 speed DCT tranny compare to the ancient 6 speed conventional auto tranny of the other 3 series models. but i agree with you if they offer this to the coupe as well, then DCT or no DCT, it'll definitely effect 335is sales.

Well besides the transmission differences and the availability of the is in coupe form, power wise this will make most people just go for a regular 335 with the package.

I'm not bmw educated but do the 335i sedans have the fuel pump issue?

My neighbors's 335i coupe was lemoned and he swore never to get a bmw again. I wonder if this will entice more buyers.

However, this option is definitely a no brainer

WOW its like BMW is giving it away. They usually nickel and dime for every single option and they are usually more expensive

550 divided by 2 is 275, roughly a lease is paying for half the value of the car, divide that by a typical 36 month lease, and you get $7.64 extra a month added to your lease payments, in respect to what your getting the package is relatively free.

Anyways, I applaud BMW for actually trying to give a slight edge to their customers, I don't see anyone else doing it
