Default Be careful who you sell a car to.

Some people just don't tolerate lemons. They bite back.

(CBS/AP) PORTSMOUTH, N.H. - Police say a man angry that a New Hampshire car dealer wouldn't take back the van he bought returned to the dealership and deliberately crashed into six other vehicles.

David Cross of Salisbury, Mass. is facing six counts of criminal mischief. He's been released on personal recognizance.

Police say Cross bought the van from the Portsmouth Used Car Superstore on Monday. After a mechanic found it had a host of problems, he tried to return it on Tuesday, but was spurned by the dealer. The 42-year-old allegedly drove back to the dealership just before midnight Tuesday and rammed the van into the other vehicles, causing about $20,000 in damages.

Cross tells The Portsmouth Herald the van was a "lemon" and he was driven by anger.

"I hit the first $25,000 car I could see," Cross told the Herald. "I didn't hit a car under $20,000. Then I moved a van that they wouldn't come down on the price for. I moved it with the lemon they sold me. I just held it to the floor until I couldn't move it anymore. I took out seven vehicles, including my own."

Cross, who called the van "a piece of crap" with a broken odometer, told the newspaper that he is prepared to face whatever penalty he gets.

"I'm stuck with it now," he said. "But I got my point across."

He's been released on personal recognizance.
Unless he decides to get some more of his "point" across.

(He probably should have gone to Car Max. They generally don't sell lemons).

Yeah......this guy (probably) should have gone to Car Max. Car Max is not the most dirt-cheap place to get used cars, but I'm generally impressed with them and their overall operation.

The incident should cut down on sales there for awhile.
I wouldn't buy there now.

As much as we all hate sleazy dealerships, it was his duty to have the car pre-inspected before buying it.

I'm sure all of us would love to do this when we're mad, but we have to step back and be more rational.

He should've parked his car on the street (city property), plastered signs on his car, and just picketed it from there.

^ This.

Guy buys it on Mon and takes it to mechanic on Tues??

The van may have needed a bunch of work but that doesn't make it a lemon. Now this poor bastard is going to be paying restitution to the dealership for years to come.

I never understood why people buy the car first and have them checked later?

On occasion, I see people buy cars and then make threads titled: "Did I get my car for a good price?"

Every used car dealer I have been to has always said, take it for an extended test drive and take it to your mechanic, if it went the other way and was priced wrong, and he made out, he would have never took it back and told them, its his own fault

Yeah, my friend's family sold a car and then had the police at their door the next day because whoever bought the car did a hit and run with it........
