Hyundai Motor America today announced sales of 59,561 vehicles in July, a 10% increase compared with the same period a year ago.

This represents an all-time sales record for both the month of July and the 1st 7 months of the year for Hyundai, breaking the marks set last year. This also marks the 7th consecutive month that Hyundai has set an all-time monthly sales record.

Year to date, Hyundai sales are up 23% versus 2010 in total, and up 36% at retail. Sales to fleet accounts represent 9% of the total sales year-to-date and 10% for the month of July. 38% of Hyundai vehicles sold in July achieved 40 MPG fuel economy ratings.

"Consumer demand continues to be robust across the board for Hyundai, particularly with our imposing sedan line-up of Accent, Elantra, and Sonata Hybrid all delivering on our 40 MPG promise,"
said Dave Zuchowski, Hyundai Motor America's executive vice president of national sales. "Accent sales are up an astounding 75% in the 1st full month of deliveries and our new sub-compact is expected to become the top selling nameplate at retail in its segment for July."

Genesis' sustained growth trajectory continued with July representing the 25th consecutive month of year-over-year sales increases with a lift of 53% over last July. Equus, our premium luxury sedan, is up 37% versus June and set an all-time sales record. The U.S.-built Sonata and Santa Fe also saw increases of 17 and 15%, respectively.

The Camry is once again the best selling car in the US after a brief concession to the Cruze last month. Vanilla never gets old.

The increase continues a sales surge that, for the 1st 7 months of 2011, makes Mitsubishi the fastest growing automaker in the United States.

"We are particularly pleased with the performance of the Outlander Sport small CUV," said MMNA President & CEO Yoichi Yokozawa. "July was the biggest sales month ever for Outlander Sport, so consumers continue to be drawn to its fuel-efficiency and performance." MMNA sold 1,571 Outlander Sports in July, more than 12% higher than the vehicle's previous high sales month (April 2011).

This marks MMNA's highest July sales total since 2008 and the 11th consecutive month that the company has achieved a year-over-year sales increase. Year-to date sales are up 62.1%.

"There's a lot for our dealers and our customers to be excited about for the rest of the summer," Yokozawa said. "For example, we're in the middle of our 'Own Every Road' Sales Event that ties into our groundbreaking 'World's Most Dangerous Road' Outlander Family Campaign."

Eclipse sales increased more than 95% in July, and are up more than 78% year to date. The iconic sports car is nearing the end of a long production run as the final car comes off the assembly line in Normal, Illinois, this month and will be auctioned off for charity in September.

"Also, we're less than 4 months from the arrival of our 100% electric Mitsubishi "i" vehicle," Yokozawa added.
Other Mitsubishi sales numbers include:

Sales of Mitsubishi cars were up 9% in July and are up 37% year-to-date.
Sales of Mitsubishi SUVs and CUVs were up 117% in July and are up 119% year-to-date.
Sales of products assembled at MMNA's U.S. facility in Normal, Illinois, were up 108% in July and are up 114% year to date.
Amazing recovery by Mitsubishi! Is this growth sustainable? I'm pulling for this underdog to go all the way

Wow at Ford Escape and Chevy Cruze sales!

Toyota is recovering already, despite continuing inventory shortages and production still not at 100%. Despite this and a model changeover, Camry still easily the king of midsize sedan sales . The new model is about to hit showrooms very soon, so the competition should be worried.

Total fail for Honda. Their sales got hammered in July. It's been several months since the disaster. Toyota and Nissan are recovering quickly, and Honda produces less vehicles in Japan and relies less on Japanese suppliers percentage-wise compared to Toyota, yet Honda is lagging WAY behind in terms of returning to 100% production and stabilizing their inventory levels.

Looks like Hyundai's sales growth is starting to slow down.

Is it possible for Lexus to win another year as the top Luxury brand in the US?

No one posted the YTD sales of Lexus.

So far, we got:

Bmw: 135,114
Mercedes: 129,932
Audi: 65,055

Anyone know the YTD for Lexus?

I still don't get Escape sales. It's a dinosaur in the segment.

The Cruze is on fire. I don't know why it gets so much criticism here on CL.
Great car. Some criticize it's styling. I think it's understated design is the 3rd best in the segment (Focus and Elantra are best IMO). It's mature, upscale look is what sells.

I'm wondering how the Focus's inventory is doing (only been out about 2-3 months). If its at full speed, I'm surprised it's this far behind the Cruze (Ford moved 14,889 in July). I was predicting the Focus to launch itself to near the top of the segment in sales. It's widely rated the best car by publications. And the public is more accepting of Ford over GM after the bailout. Curious.

Lexus' YTD sales is 102,549. So there is no way they will catch up to BMW this year. However, they should recapture the crown next year with all their new sedans.

Although the Cruze has problems and issues, design-wise it's inoffensive and appeals to the majority. That is why it's selling well. Quite simple really.

The Focus and Elantra are more polarizing designs, and are certainly not inoffensive designs, or at least not as inoffensive as the Cruze.

Some really like the Elantra. Others such as myself find the new Elantra really ugly and gaudy. That is an example of a polarizing design.

Despite being dated, that's also a big reason why the Escape is selling so well. It's a very inoffensive design that appeals to a large majority and large variety of people.

Here is a great example of the strength of Toyota:

http://www.autonews.com/article/2011...110809950/1448

LOS ANGELES -- Although Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. sales plummeted 23 percent in July, on a year-over-year basis, because of continuing quake-related shortages, the automaker's inventories and sales are beginning to rebound from the previous two months.

Compared with June, Toyota, Lexus and Scion sales increased by 18 percent, the second consecutive month of sales increases compared to the prior month. In particular, Prius sales jumped 80 percent, while the Camry remained the best-selling car in America.

"We expect the momentum from the previous two months to continue as inventories recover," said Jeff Bracken, vice president of sales for Toyota Division.

July marked the first month of full production of eight U.S.-built models. Many Japan-built models are resuming full production as well. Bracken said more vehicles will be built in the second half of 2011 than in the same period last year.

Randy Pflughaupt, Toyota group vice president of sales administration, said: "If we define 'normal' [inventories] as same level as a year ago, it probably will be beyond the end of the calendar year before we return to those types of levels."

"Part of it is how strong sales will be through that time. Our inventories aren't building as rapidly as we thought. Dealers are converting those units into sales," Pflughaupt said.

Toyota Division's inventory was 180,000 vehicles at the beginning of July; as of Aug. 1, that number had declined to 150,000 units, Pflughaupt said. It might be early 2012 before Toyota begins posting year-over-year sales gains, he added.

In anticipation of the improved inventory pipeline, Toyota Division is continuing interest rate and lease incentive programs it began in July. Fleet sales accounted for just 2 percent of the total as Toyota concentrated on delivering vehicles to consumers.

With Lexus vehicles finally starting to reach U.S. shores again, the luxury brand is launching a "Golden Opportunity Sales Event" this month.

"We hit the bottom of the trough of availability in June," said Brian Smith, Lexus vice president of sales and dealer development. "We are on our way back to refilling inventories and satisfying demand. We anticipate a strong fourth quarter."
Yes, you read that correctly. Fleet sales for Toyota in July were only at 2%. That shows a VERY strong retail performance for Toyota in July. Looking at retail-only sales, Toyota crushed a lot of the competition in July in reality.

Very impressed by the fleet numbers. A lot of the '11 Corollas I see have bar codes in the windows, which means rental, so I was concerned they were trying to boost sales by use of fleets. Camry sales last year were about 18% fleet, which is abnormally high for that model, but 2010 was just a bad year to be Toyota.

Good to see inventory increasing for Toyota and Lexus. I'm very optimistic that the latter part of 2011 and 2012 will be very good years, product wise and sales wise.

Post Kia

After completing an historic 1st half of 2011 with record sales and market share gains, Kia Motors America's (KMA) upward trajectory continues as the company recorded its best-ever July sales of 45,504 vehicles.

Led by the U.S.-built(1) Sorento CUV, which posted its all-time best monthly sales of 13,262 units, KMA's July sales were up an impressive 28.5% over the same period last year and also included strong performances from the Soul, Optima and Forte. KMA has achieved new monthly sales records for 11 consecutive months.

"More and more consumers are discovering Kia Motors every day as our diverse lineup of stylish and fun-to-drive cars and CUVs attract customers looking for a compelling combination of world-class design, outstanding quality, fuel efficiency, state-of-the-art technology and tremendous value," said Byung Mo Ahn, group president and CEO of KMA and Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia (KMMG). "With the long-term success of our two best-selling products – Sorento and Soul – the overwhelmingly positive response the new Optima has received and the arrival of the all-new Rio models later this year, Kia is well-positioned for continued sales and market share growth in the second half of 2011 and beyond."
