German crash test is a scary reminder of what happens when cars and trucks collide
If you needed another reminder why you really don't want to get rear ended by a commercial truck while sitting in your car, here it is. This German crash test is intended to show what happens when a truck plows into cars parked behind another stopped commercial truck.

Frighteningly enough, this truck was only travelling 43 MPH when it plowed into the Mitsubishi Lancer wagon and 1990s Renault Megane shown here. German ADAC produced this video in an effort to gain support for making the inclusion of emergency brake assist on large trucks mandatory.

We don't speak German, nor are we particularly familiar with the specifics of emergency brake assist but if it stops this kind of thing from happening, we support it. (Crash begins at 1:30)http://jalopnik.com/5826190/german-c...ag=car-crashes

The other day I was wondering if any of today's passenger car safety tech makes it to commercial trucks (stability control, brake force distribution, air bags etc.)

Guess not.

i was thinking about that too. and also what about some of the suvs out there, how much "better" would it be, if at all? the 2 cars used here, seems like they are pretty old and not as much modern protections?

also i wonder what the last part of the video is about, truck with pre-collision setup?

This is why I shake my head when I see people darting in front of big trucks and the likes. Those things will pancake a car without breaking a sweat...why play with fire??

I once responded to a call where these dudes in a integra lost control in front of a 18 wheeler and got pancaked between the truck and a pillar on a overpass. Nothing to play with. You see a lot of that down here in Miami.

What is scary is that is a feather weight truck with nothing on it. I know of only Mercedes that is actually advacing safety by making their trucks crash compatiable with and be able to stop like cars, all the while rest of the industry is just playing dumb and pretending this problem doesn't exist.

That bus is under heavy braking (you can see by the nose dive) without leaving a mile long skid mark or a cloud of tire smoke. I was impressed by that.

I hate truckers and truckers, they all drive like maniacs, always above speed limit, and they cause other drivers to speed (nobody wants to be stuck behind a truck, especially in bad weather).

They should limit all trucks to right lane 35mph max, with severe fines.
