Audi R8 advise?
Hi everyone,
well, here's the deal- i love my 08 Obsidian F. But, i bought it because i couldn't score a GTR when they were released (at a reasonable price..)
So, i have been recently perusing the web, looking for a GTR to add to my stable.. Wifey asks: "What are you doing?".. I tell her, and she says...... why don't we get that Audi when the kids are done with school in 2 years. Yes, THAT Audi. The R8.
Now, they are not to awfully common where i live in the country, so i have never seen, let alone driven one.. The nearest i have seen for sale is 250+ miles.. I don't want to go that far to look one over and waste a seller's time, since it will be a while before i purchase. So my question is, have any of you driven or have any experience with the R8?? I would love to hear from anyone that has some insight- thanks for your help!
(And yes, i am keeping my F.)

There is an R8 here on the Jersey Shore and also my friend Marc has one. Audi has awful mechanical issues. The R8 is not that impressive. Year after year after year after year, they suck, [ audi cars ] and are rated **** poorly by consumer report. The car is just a fad for the time being. I would try to pursue the LFA or Bentley Continental GT Supersport if you are going to be spending that kind of money. Audi blows the big one.

As you can see by my sign I am biased to the GTR but honestly the R8 is a wonderful machine. If I were to consider the Audi it would only be the V10 as it is pretty much the same as the Lambo and we know that this engine sounds like a mechanical symphony. I have driven both and the GTR seems to me to be sharper and of course more powerful. Another plus in the GTR category is that it is easy to mod and get 100awhp very easy. Another plus also for the GTR is the new 2012s are more powerful and have updated parts to help it perform better and go faster. I think the only way I would get the R8 over the GTR is if I were to get the convertible. Also a loaded GTR versus a loaded R8 coupe or convertible would still be cheaper. Also if you are a "purist" and like rowing the gears yourself then your only choice would be the R8. Both awesome machines but the GTR edges out the R8 IMO.
*also the GTR has been decent on the pump and doesn't have a gas guzzler tax. Plus I have had zero issues with it. Maintenance is kinda high but oil and filter changes are anywhere from $90-$150. But brakes and transmission fluid way over priced.

I worked for audi for 2 years and we sold 5 or 6 R8s. v8s and v10s they all are in the shop at least every other month because retarded stuff breaks on them with ungodly labor times... Fixing and maintaining an R8 is a lot of money. If you have deep pockets and enough time to be at a dealer than go for it but i would buy 911 turbo or a GTR way before an R8. 911 or GTR with a flash will crush the v10 r8 by the way.... CRUSH IT

first of all take the V8 R8 out of the list cause it has the same engine as the RS4 and its not any faster(maybe slower) than your F. I'm just talking about performance, looks its something else and its subjective, no one argues that R8 looks phenomenal. so basically your choice is between V10 R8 and the GTR. V10 R8 as far as i know would cost twice as much as the GTR and performance wise i think GTR has the edge especially the 2012 model. i am not gonna talk about reliability cause at that price point you probably dont care if you're buying new. if buying used i wouldn't go near audi. so i think GTR is a better choice overall unless you want a manual car which in this case R8 is the only option.

A V8 R8 slower than IS-F? In Lexus' wildest dreams.
