Seems Toyota is taking the FT-86's handling and racing potential seriously!

The guys on that website are going nuts over that car.
It looks like a Genesis Coupe and an M-Coupe had sex... and the FT is the unfortunate offspring.
I just don't think it's attractive, and the flat-4 is a total deal breaker.

Don't be a sore loser, you think Toyota's going to miss out? You speak as if you've seen the car, and drove it. All you have to go by is concepts so far. The FT that'll be racing will be just like the Matte Black LFA racer. Body panels will be obscured, headlighs as well.
Also, Akio Toyoda (Morizo) will be there driving not the LFA, but he Aston Martin V12 Zagato. Meanwhile Dr. Ulrich Bez, Aston Martin CEO will be driving the LFA! They share a pit garage, so the head honcho's will be sharing each other's cars!

It can drive *****in', but if it's ugly, people won't buy it (we're talking about the street version, obviously). Basic marketing 101.
I've seen enough to know I'm not crazy about the looks of this car. I'm as much of a Toyota fan as the next guy, but a Subi engine just isn't going to get it done for me. I do applaud Toyota for building a reasonably priced RWD car, however.
I'll keep my MR2, thanks.

According to the full list of participants the FT86 will be pitted against the Astra OPC, Civic Type R, S2000, Civic and 206RC in the SP3 class (near-production cars with displacements between 1750cc and 2000cc). The S2000 in particular will be tough to beat but hopefully Toyota will pull if off somehow.
Appearance-wise I'm disappointed that the production car doesn't look nearly close enough to the concepts but still it isn't too bad for the target price range.

I've been called many things, but "sore loser" is a new one.

Wow, you guys who have "seen" the styling of the car must be really lucky to have insider Toyota access to what the production car looks like, because ALL I see in these photos is a car obscured and disguised by camouflage .
This is however GREAT news. Toyota is dead serious about making the FT-86 a very special car. This is going to sell like hot cakes. This will stomp all over the Genesis coupe in almost every category. A Toyota engineer has said the car will have the world's lowest center of gravity of any production car, Honda S2000 and Mazda Miata included. That right there shows you how serious Toyota is about the car.
