why are you using that ancient 10-15 standard? JC08 is much more representative.
as said before, I expect real life of c to be considerably better than in regular Prius due to 500lbs less weight.
on the other hand, epa for highway wont be as good since it uses smaller engine.

The 15"-wheeled Prius c gets worse fuel economy than the 15"-wheeled Prius in combined fuel economy tests. Fact.
If the 15"-wheeled Prius c got 50mpg combined the PR at the US debut would've mentioned it. Instead they only mentioned ">50mpg city", which means the US-bound Prius c can't even get the regular Prius's 50mpg combined rating. Simple as that.

in few months - problem with c and Prius is high yen, so who knows what will they be able to price it at.
Head Engineer already said they expect for it to become Toyota's best seller in Japan, but not in the world due to pricing difficulties with high Yen and Japanese production.

On the same day that the regular Aqua went on sale in its home market, Toyota's TRD racing and performance division announced a slew of tuning upgrades for the sub-compact hatchback.
Starting with the exterior package, TRD's offerings include a new front apron with additional air vents and optional LED daytime running lights, matching side skirts, a roof spoiler, and a rear apron that incorporates a diffuser in a matte black finish.
For the interior, there's a new TRD push-button start while performance mods are limited -for the time being- to a sports exhaust system with a pair of chrome tailpipes, larger alloy wheels and a suspension package with new springs and shock absorbers that lower the car's ride height.
TRD said that it will release more styling accessories and performance mods in the near future.

but you cant calculate it like that, who knows what is the cost of setting up such factory in US (in Japan they have excess capacity), same goes for battery factory. If it made sense, they would have already done it.
And they actually sell far better in Japan than aynwhere else... Prius and Prius v sold 33k in Japan last month and I think 15k in USA. Prius c will sell even better in Japan than US, because in US small cars dont sell that well while in Japan, such cars sell the best (Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris are best selling non-hybrids in Japan, while it is F150 and Camry in USA, so you can see the difference in prefference).
If you look at volumes alone, Toyota already produces all the best sellers in the USA - cars that sell significantly better in US than in Japan, are also made in US... Camry barely sells anything in Japan, Corolla sells also 4x better in US, Rav4 sells better in US, and US centric cars like Tundra, Tacoma, Sienna, Venza are not even sold in Japan, or anywhere else (in same configuration, Rav4 does but it is different version).

this will do extremely well in sales since the economy is still in the tank and Gas is shooting back up again....people will strongly consider this as an affordable budget minded package for 19k. heck even I would consider one for a daily commuter and park the LS for trips only.

Everyone was expecting this to beat the standard Prius' MPG numbers easily, but surprisingly, it only beats it marginally in the city. The regular Prius still wins on the highway (likely due the Prius' longer body and therefore more aerodynamic shape). So what we have is a 50 mpg combined tie.
I would still choose a standard Prius.
