Thats terrible.

Since ICE is what powers the electric motors, I am not sure how can it not matter? When you press gas, it is ICE that will spin faster and rpms will rise to the top. How exactly do you think this works? Fact that it doesnt directly power the wheels is just hinderance, as extra part in equation (motor) has its own power losses and as result, you end up with car that gets 20 MPG and that is slower than any Camry.

OK i did some research becaue I just felt something is wrong here.

Fuel tank capacity of Karma is 9.5 gallons. With those 9.5 gallons you can get close to 250 miles after 30 EV miles. How that can be bad at all?

Hell we can compare it with MB S400 hybrid which gives you 400 miles on 24 gallons tank. If EPA says that S400 costs you $80 ($3.36/gal) to fill the whole tank then 1 mile costs you $0.20.
Karma costs you $32 to top and with combined range of 280 miles thats $0.11 (for fuel charge only, no electricity included). I don't know how much full electric charge will cost you but we can find out and then add that to a 1 mile cost.

That is the fun part, it is pretty much like gas prices. It all depends where you live. Electric cars would do well in Quebec, seeing we have Hydro-electricity which is pennies per kWh. Just in winter, the battery will have problems because of our -40c winters (incl. wind chill) at times.

i have no idea what your deal is with fuel tanks :-).

Who cares what the range is?

If it had 100 gallon fuel tank and 5 MPG, you would love it because it has 530 mile range?

Important part is MPG. MPG is 20. It is awful and worse than most cars out there in the price range.

You can pick GS450h to compare, not S400. It will go 50% more on tank and be a LOT faster at the same time, when both are running on fuel... for some 30k less.

does the gasoline get sent to a generator for the electric motor like a Chevrolet Volt or is this a plug-in hybrid?
