New..........probably an Outback 3.6R. I've been extremely pleased with my present Outback, except that the H6 would give it some more spunk......on 87-octane, now. The H4 is adequate for my driving-tastes, but a little sluggish.
LOL that has got to be the most random choice ever in one of these "What would you buy with $xx" threads.
Why go from an IS350 to a 328i? Why not a 335i or an M3?
I worry about 335i's reliability issue, the fuel pump issue and long term turbo issue to be specific. I can't find an E9X M3 for less than $40,000 with decent miles. 328i is a very balanced car except not as fast as IS350 and 335i, everything else are pretty much the same.

LOL?
I don't see anything funny about it at all. For my driving-needs, Outbacks are just about the best thing out there for the money. And, believe me, I look at a LOT of new cars every year (some of them, of course, for CL-requested auto-reviews), so I know what's out there on the market. There are lots worse ways than Subaru, IMO, that you can blow an automotive-dollar.
Now, for a used-car, that may be a different story. Several posters here have mentioned a used Lexus LS, for 30-35K, and I tend to agree with them.
I would either go with an 06 LS430 or a W220 Mercedes S600. I've also had my eyes on the 850CSI, SL500, and IS-F, but I want a big presidential sedan more than anything right now.
If only $35,000 would fall from the sky and land in my front yard...
