i just tested a car with the new 2013/2014 Lexus Navigation. the remote touch was clunky. the voice input was also clunky as well as inaccurate and error-prone.

Voice input is inaccurate on every vehicle to be fair.

Well like it or not Remote Touch at least how we currently know it be it the first gen with the enter buttons or the 2nd gen without them, Lexus is evolving to a Touch Pad with the new RC coupe and NX SUV

it's really amazing how bad the voice recognition is in cars.

Not possible yet really. You're talking a massive server farm for processing, learning, etc. versus a simple ARM processor that's busy doing 100 other things. Once cars can access pure server-based systems for VR like Google/Apple, it should get better.

very good point, but personally i think it has more to do with cost. i think the technology is there and it shouldn't be that much more work to support the function, but adaptation cost is another story

they can partner with Google/Apple and use their servers via piggybacking off of your cell phone connection. throw a modified iPad mini or Nexus 7 on the dash with a layer of Lexus software on top of it. this is the future. it's coming.

Popular Android predictive keyboard SwiftKey is about to pop up in a whole different series of devices, with the text entry system set to appear in the Clarion AX1 Android-based car entertainment system. It'll allow passengers and distracted drivers to access the web and send messages in usual SwiftKey style.

The Clarion AX1 is a car entertainment and GPS system with a 6.5-inch display, a screen that's detachable so the passenger can easily amuse themselves on long trips. It does all the usual Android tablet stuff too, like 1080p playback, Wi-Fi connectivity and Bluetooth features for smartphone control.

We have a '13 Audi and the vr is an improvement over previous cars. It's not perfect, but I do use it more frequently than in past vehicles.
