They released a TSB for the MDX regarding the torque converter and how it shudders when changing gear. The feel is similar to the 02-06 Lexus ES when it's trying to find 4th/5th gear.

Honda transmissions are very sensitive to transmission fluid. If not changed according to schedule, they have a bad habit of doing funny things. Being just a few years old while already having 126k miles on it, that's about 31k miles a year. Service manual calls for a fluid change at 30k miles. A lot of people tend to bypass the transmission service, but religiously follow the 3000 miles oil change interval.

Unfortunately, it also affects the 08+. Even some of the 2011 owners are having this shudder problem around 40mph. It's not as violent as the 02-06 ES, but it's still annoying. Honda just recently released the TSB for the Odyssey. To correct my previous statement, I am unsure whether Honda has a TSB for the MDX. Just google it and you'll find more info. There are not too many cases, if any at all regarding a blown transmission. Most complaints relates to the annoying shudder.

Seems there are many complaints from 07+ as well, where resolution was to replace the TC (Torque Converter) and these weren't high mileage MDX's.

Some went as far as saying to get it under warranty and even extended warranty, but this implies that a failure is a high probability and thus a possible eventuality. It is very hard to buy an MDX with that mentality, and furthermore, I am not buying new.

I may have to eliminate the MDX from the list altogether.
