What a beast!!!!
The only *minor* downside is that compared to the other W221 versions (including the S63 AMG), this S65 AMG only has 5-speed automatic.
Though it's understandable since the 600+hp and 1000 Nm torque of the S65 was too much for the 7G TRONIC to handle.
But other than that, the car is brilliant!!!
I really can't wait for the next-gen.
You know, one of the rumors I've heard is that MB hasn't given up on the V12 engine just yet. In fact, if the rumors are true, the top-end AMG will not only get a V12 engine but will also be able to meet stricter Euro 6 emissions that go into effect in 2014.
Man, that would be epic if it's true.
Also, who knows, maybe the future S65 AMG will uses the AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7-SPEED DCT.
Or better yet the 9-SPEED AMG DCT SPEEDSHIFT

Great thread! I love my E63, it has 41k on it now and the interior looks brand new and there isn't a single rattle in the car. The nav is looking a little dated along with the center stack, but it works fine. The only issue I've had with mine was the steering angle sensor failed, I have an aftermarket warranty that covers everything, but that would have been about $500 out of pocket. The car is a dream, smooth and quiet but add some gas and it takes off like a cruise missle. The sticker on mine was about $96k, and I paid $41k for it this summer. I'll keep it until the warranty runs out in 2013 and get something else. No issues with the airmatic yet.

BTW, I get my parts here: http://www.mbzmedford.com/ They have super low prices and are very friendly, and this is in my state so no sales tax. Ask for Jeff. If you're a member of mbworld you get a good discount.

but yes, v12 in upcoming s class is question mark right now. i was able to talk to a mb exec and he says the whole government regulation thing is totally governing what they can do on the drivetrain. it might just become too impossible for them to offer v12 in that case
sad...

Not to mention an inch or 2 more headroom, I love to have that spacious, high ceiling feeling.
You know I love the cabin of a minivan or SUV, just hate driving one. Which make me love the 5-Series Gran Turismo, cabin of a CUV but sit low on the ground. It's cabin feels more spacious then even the LS430!
This don't look half bad:

I haven't spent much time in the Lexus but the S550 I have spent many hours driving and is my favorite car I have ever been in. Smooth, clean, roomy and damn sexy with a set of asanti 22"s on it.
The controls seem complicated for the first hour or so but once you get used to it it seems like such an inconvience to have to push multiple buttons to control the radio, climate, nav etc.

The higher the repair cost, the shorter the warranty period. Is simple math.

I think is so dumb to have to push multiple buttons on the command screen just to control the rear sunshade

Currently shopping around for extended warranty and surprised how many companies have been denying me!! The problem is either too man cylinders or because of the turbo charging. The dealership was only able to give me 4year/60k miles which is not worth it for me (especially for the price and not being fully bumper to bumper) Do any of you w221 or w216 guys have any advice on where to shop around??
Also, i'd have a heart attack if I ever bought a new benz and saw the depreciation.

Awesome review Henry. I really appreciate it since I may be looking at an S class for the next ride. I was looking at them seriously when shopping for my LS but the reliability worried me. Seems like the S class has been good to you. My brother got an E550 and he loves it. No issues so far. Thanks again buddy
