Wow, over on the Ferrari forums, they normally tell people to be prepared at any given time to shell out 10k on maintenance/repairs... but this is well beyond that. Goes to illustrate that these cars are not for the faint at heart.

i will point out that many of these things aren't maintenance. they are REPAIRS. massive wear in one cylinder isn't a maint. issue, *#$@ broke.

I was going to say the same thing, that bills was not for routine maintenance or repairs, pretty much the entire motor was rebuilt and a bunch of stuff was replaced. This car was neglected, abused.....beat to death. This is not common.

I saw a similar repair bill on a 95' F355 from a high quality independent shop, the total was only $17k (parts and labor), which is reasonable. Try doing the exact same thing to a IS-F with brand new Lexus parts, the cost won't be that far off.
Good thing an IS-F has a reliable v8 lol

I wanted to say 'my Ferrari' just once, before I died... well, 'my Ferrari repair bill' and me don't mix. I'll stay with the 1/18 scale 'my Ferrari' from Autoart.

Well you could buy a pretty old Ferrari, stick it in the garage and never drive it. If you never drive it, the cost of maintenance and repair is zero.

A good looking F355 is down to the $30k range now. Even if you can't drive it, it is still "your Ferrari" and you are a real Ferrari owner. LOL

Just storing a car doesn't really preserve it. My stepmother kept my Dad's Olds Ciera for about 13 years, at which point it had only 8K miles on it. Even with regular maintenance, and my using it for a week or so at a time just to keep the fluids moving, it began to disintegrate. It wasn't the mileage, it was time and disuse that destroyed it.

Serious collectors know the importance of actually driving their cars from time to time. Jay Leno's collection is regularly driven and serviced, but he and his team of mechanics use expensive lubricants, coolant, brake fluid, even $8/gal gasoline to preserve the collection. It turns out one of the worst things you can do to a collectible car is run modern ethanol-laced fuels in it. Putting a car up on blocks for years at a time looks like a pretty sure way to destroy it.

Lil4X..............of course.

I was simply saying one way to be an actual Ferrari owner with a very low budget, got nothing to do with preserving the car. Just let it sit and die.

There's a guy I know who has a warehouse in town where he rents space to classic car owners.
Fabulous place to see but of course not open to the public. It's like a museum. Many years of Ferrari's,Benz's including a Goldwing, old Porsches,60's Maserati's etc.About 60 cars in the warehouse.
Many of these cars have sat for years and many also have pans under them for leaks from sitting.
