Impreza 2.5 RS!?
Anyone on CL familiar with this format? Thinking about this vehicle, but the price seems a bit steep. Anyone know the reasons why, the seller chose to sell it at this price? Seems like a dealer price if you ask me. It only goes for 4800 on KBB and I even chose all the premium options it doesn't have. Please fill me in on some insight
For sale is a 2000 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS Coupe, 5 speed manual, Blue Ridge Pearl exterior and gray/blk interior.
I'm the original owner and bought the car new in 2000, it's in very good condition inside and out. CLEAN TITLE, SUPER LOW miles only 112k as you can see from the picture, and plus all the parts are STOCK and unmodified except the shift **** and gear pedals plus a new pioneer head unit but these are very easy to swap out for your own preferences. Well taken care of, have some of the maintenance records with me, there are minor blemishes on the body and little scratches here and there on the inside but nothing too noticeable, it is a 12 year old car after all. This color/model combination is a very RARE find nowadays, I get asked to sell the car all the time but only recently decided to do so since I need to get a more passenger and cargo friendly car.

The price isn't too bad. They are very rare around here, especially in decent shape.
My friend bought an imported four door version of that car for close to that price, but it had half the miles.

If its clean (good paint, clean interior), thats a good price.
Things to look for: Make sure the timing belt was changed at 105,000. make sure the transmission is in good condition. Check for headgasket leaks under the engine.
If it has any of those issues, they need to knock a bit off the price.
There weren't that many RS's made from 98-01, and LOTS of them have been heavily modified. So finding a clean unmolested one in good shape is quite rare.

My brother had a 2000 Impreza for 10 years, and, although it needed a few minor repairs and the usual service, the only major repair was a new front-axle-shaft assembly around 80,000 miles or so (front CV joints are a weakness on a lot of FWD/AWD vehicles, especially if their protective rubber-boot-seals tear or break). So, if possible, check the boot-conditions, and, on the test-drive, make sure you don't hear any unwarranted front-end-noise or feel axle-related vibrations. A worn CV joint will usually start to make clicking or grinding noises, especially in turns.
On the head-gasket problem, the 1999-2002 Subaru 2.5L non-turbo models had a new engine-coolant developed for them that increased the warranty to 8/80 on the engines....that coolant is now used on all Subarus. I know that the warranty is now gone on this car, but if the new coolant was added, it will decrease the likelihood of premature head-gasket problems, which afflicted many of the non-turbo 2.5L engines of that era. (Fortunately, my brother's Impreza had the smaller but dead-reliable 2.2L)
BTW, the silver wheels on that particular car are, IMO, much better looking than the gaudy-looking gold ones on most of the Impreza RS models of that era. Those gold wheels, IMO, were awful....especially with the blue or green body-color paint

It's a popular car with the younger tuner crowd as well, the STi version was featured in a manga and animated series Initial D.
Though the car won't be worth as much to a regular joe, an enthusiast might be willing to pick it up at that price since the car does look to be pretty clean.
