2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo gets latest early reveal

Another embargo has fallen by the wayside, at least partially. We have a lot to tell you about the 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo, but much of it has to wait until the car is revealed tomorrow afternoon at the Detroit Auto Show.

What we can show and tell you, what's already out and about on the Internet, are these three images and the basic specs below.

Note that the standard Veloster's 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine produces only 138 horsepower and 123 lb-ft of torque. The extra 63 horsepower afforded by the addition of a turbocharger, among other mechanical upgrades we'll talk about later, makes the Veloster instantly competitive with other sport compacts like the Volkswagen GTI, Honda Civic Si and Mini Cooper S.

Sounds like another winner to me. And it still gets 38 MPG hwy? That's pretty good.

 

Car should have debuted with this engine. First impressions are very important in this industry.

 

Very nice upgrade and it's quirky and different.

Except in the real world it will get 12 MPG

Wow 201hp out of the little 1.6L. Thats impressive, kudos to Hyundai.

 

0-100 kph in theory is 6.3 seconds because of the dual-clutch system. It will probably really get 20 mpg (real world), seeing I am getting like 30 mpg. Even the non-turbo version is an impressive car, some noise issues but I am happy with it. Just sucks that, it doesn't tell me when my windshield wiper fluid low though.

 

I saw the current version of it on a parking lot, and I hate to sound negative, but that thing was beyond fugly.

 

I have seen way more uglier cars out there.

 

This thing must feel like a rocket at 201HP and 2700ibs..

 

Definitely gonna push my brother to trade his Civic in for one of these

 

Maybe you have. Maybe I have aswell. But it is still very ugly.

 

I like these. I dont see many, but its refreshing to see something totally different than the regular coupe or sedan out on the road. The bright and fun colors certainly help as well.

A much needed power upgrade that should make it just as speedy as a Scion FRS.

 

This is a very unique looking car, I am glad that it gets a stronger engine.
