^^ They got chargers now, the ford died away. Even undercovers get chargers now instead of the Impala's and fords. I see em a lot on I-95 north (especially the undercovers) as well in Richmond and C-ville. VCU equipped with mad chargers too and slowly getting rid of the fords every year.

I wonder if the Chargers will regularly make it to 300,000 with little to no maintenance like the Crown Vics were......

When I worked at Saleen in the 90's we built a Saleen for Seal Beach CA Police. Mostly the Chief drove it. He also had a Mustang race car we worked on, hmm coincidence? I guess not.

Back in the early 90's, the Florida Highway Patrol used to use 5.0 LX Mustangs. The local sheriff's office also had a drug seized Camaro SS.

Note to MSN, the "1956 Dodge Coronet" pictured,

This is the 1956 Dodge Coronet (in civilian livery)

The one pictured in the article is actually a 1959 Dodge Coronet.

Some difference.

While 1956 was the year tailfins became a common design feature on everything south of Cadillac (that started the styling trend in 1947), they didn't reach real fruition until the MoPars of 1957, the year Chrysler Corp introduced "The Forward Look" with a stying revolution that sent everyone else home on the trailer. The look was characterized by massive fins, a large, steeply raked windshield, a low beltline, and a freshened face that emphasized the low, broad body. It was a little scary at first, but customers caught on, and within a few months their cars were enjoying a sales boom.

It would be three or four years before the rest of the industry caught up with the styling of the long, low, wide Chrysler products. Ford and Chevy introduced extended "vestigial" fins in 1957, but did not make the corporate commitment to the whole design language until two years later. 1957 literally was the watershed year in American automotive design.

1957 Chevy

1957 Ford

1957 Plymouth
