I did some math. It seems the license plate system Hong Kong has in place, they can have up to 6.76 million cars registered, before they need a new system

That's it? Is a good thing that not everyone in HK owns a car, as the population in HK is already over 7 millions.

It is the math I came up with, but I could be wrong.

26^2 = 676 (letter combinations)
10^4 = 10000 (number combinations)
= 6.76 million (total combinations)

If Hong Kong changes licenses to having numbers first and letters second, they probably could have a total of 13.52 million license plates.

All letter license plate (26^6) would have some 300+ million plates

Good point:

Though also keep in mind that the Transport Department (運輸署) also allows for custom vehicle plates as well.

Blackraven beat me to it, you can have vanity plate in any letter or number combination now. Look at all those pics, pretty much all nice cars have vanity plate.

wow 49 miles, what was the purchased price? Or at least what was the asking price if the sold price is not made public?

Is a PITA to drive a LHD car in HK, so it is probably be use in China. Some people do drive LHD car in HK, but they use the T-plate and since is a PITA, is usually done on very high level cars........Enzo, Carrera GT, and you very rarely see them on the street. So I doubt a LHD NSX will be seen on the street much.

Really, I have never seen one. And E9X M3 in my neighborhood is as common as Camry.
