How do people out there afford such vehicles? From what I could tell, the vast, vast majority of people in hong kong dont live that high up.

the richness "extreme" in hong kong is pretty serious. most people are very normal and nothing close to that, but the rich they are ridiculously rich.

You are just looking at the top 1%, it is like that everywhere in the world, the difference in HK is due to it being such a tiny place, it is highly concentrated, making it looks like tons of people are driving exotic cars. The reality is, most normal population in HK don't even own cars, they take public transportation.

Just like if you hang out at the pebble beach car week, where most people there are exotic car's owners, which makes it feels like everyone in the U.S. own an exotic car. When in fact most of the general population drive an econobox.

Also most of uber rich HK ppl live either in Kennedy town, Aberdeen, or Central which combined is about as big as Brooklyn & Queens, so I am guessing its pretty easy to spot them in their super car since the most common way to get off HK island is through Central.

indeed. as i mentioned in another thread before, get out to central in a late evening, close to the coast (where they have higher speed) and you see exotics roaring by very often

And you have to consider cars there are priced almost twice as much for the same model in the US. because of the high import taxes too, making them much less affordable ...

It is often said that majority of cars in HK (as in 50% and above) are premium or luxury cars. Insane when you think about it.

Fuel prices are higher than most other East Asian countries I reckon.

Shell HK top-of-the-line Unleaded fuel costs more than >10 hong kong dollars PER LITER (so on average USD$2 per liter..........which is like 1/3 or 1/4 of a gallon)

And yet to those people, that's chump change.
