Congrats! Euro EVO / STi FTW!!

Wow, I haven't use FTW for a very long time now

VW finally got it right, the GTi got the turbo punch but FWD only. The R32 got the 4WD but no turbo punch. FINALLY power with traction

The car is MSRP of ~36k (pricey for a non-luxury marque I know). I didn't get any discount on the car very few people are getting any discounts on the car at all from what I've been reading. The invoice on the car is less than $2k less than the MSRP so profit on these cars are slim pickings. They're only bringing a limited amount of these for one year (like they have for the 04 and 08 R32s only 5000 for each year), so I'm happy I didn't have to pay a mark up.

We snapped a few pictures while waiting for the tune to be copied to the car. It's cold lately in New England and I wasn't the one snapping pictures. I'll try to take more soon.

Yes OEM wheels. I'm not a big fan of the style but I'm not ready to drop some cash on new wheels just yet.

Thanks everyone!

Soon! I've been swamped at work and the car has quickly gotten dirty again (birds are hatin' on me lately) but I'll try to snap some more photos soon.

Most of the people I've talked to in the know disagree. Not many know the 2009+ WRX internals strength as no one has really pushed them very far yet. They just got the flash programmer stuff working on them not too long ago. While the turbos between the two cars are different, they flow identical air volume. Why Subaru uses two different ones, I can't fathom.

And STi definitely has better brakes/suspension/etc and it handles FAR better, but worth the $8k? difference? No way lol

I almost got to goof around with a Golf R the other day, was a slick looking ride for sure. I was playing with a newer 5.0 and saw the Golf fly up on me, had an upgraded exhaust or something, but nothing....

Nice ride ! Congrats. I think I would have waited for the BRZ or FT86. They have been getting stellar reviews. Seems like they did a great job bringing an affordable drivers car to market

Unless you want to go drifting, your Golf R is a great choice.

I had a 04' WRX STi, great performer, but those things are low rent too, along with the EVO. They are econobox with performance hardwares.

Love it! It's literally the car that best fit my needs.

Pros:
-Love the turbo
-Interior materials are great, decent sound deadening. The seat is much more comfortable for a guy my size (5'6", 160lbs slim/athletic) my tC while I loved the material didn't offer support on my lower back and was just too wide.
-Slick shifting manual (no squishy vagueness, no notchiness, no stickiness). My old tC would sometimes be a little sticky and didn't always provide a positive feel for if the gear was solidly in gear. I've driven my friends WRX and 335xi for comparison. The WRX is vague sometimes hard to tell what gear you're in, hard to tell when the gear is fully engaged, just felt weird. 335 shifts great, if you can shift it quickly enough, you literally have to slam gears the revs drop off so quick.
-Handles like a dream for stock tires (Pirelli all seasons). Suspension is adequate for Boston potholes, responsive, stiff but doesn't shatter your bones and shake all your interior panels. I actually took it to a big get together of VW Rs (R32s and Golf Rs) on the Tail of the Dragon in NC. Makes any amateur (me) seem like they've seen some track time.
-Xenons, they do a little auto-leveling dance when I start up the car and they are SO clear. I had a drop-in kit for my tC with stock projectors, the bixenons put that to shame (I had custom HID fogs too on the tC)

Cons:
-Turbo. I can't stay out of boost. I know it's a personal problem but fuel is a bit more expensive with this car. On top of that, the 6th gear is badly geared, could be better for highway cruising.
-Soundaktor. Ugh, essentially a vibrating puck that's controlled by engine input to make the exhaust sound throatier on the interior.
-No LED tails, we get the same ones as any other Golf.
-Exhaust could be throatier stock. I miss my overrun pops and burbles on my tC with the TRD catback. The turbo hushes a lot of the noise.
-Leather seats standard (I really miss my Alcantara material).
-The premium sound system (Dynaudio) could use a sub-woofer it lacks some bassy punch, otherwise clarity is good makes me wish I had higher quality music files.
-Buffeting. If I have the roof open I get horrific buffeting at 30mph. I need to crack the window a bit.
