And Koma's new car is..... (Golf R content)
Allow me to reintroduce myself... my name is MOK M- to the O-K... I used to drive a Scion tC...
Some of you know I've been looking for a replacement car since basically I bought my last car (2008 Scion tC Release Series 4.0), I've had my eye on a replacement since around May last year and decided on what I was to buy back then, problem was the car wasn't due to arrive until January of this year. Instead of putting everyone through a boring thread of "Hey I want this car but have to wait for it" I just suffered through the anticipation myself.
Well let me introduce you to the car I replaced my tC with...
2012 Volkswagen Golf R. 2.0L 4 cylinder turbo rated at 253hp/243ft. lb. It comes in 6 speed manual only in the US and driving the power through all 4 wheels. So far the only mod I've done is a flash tune good for another ~20hp and 60 ft lb. The options on the car are color, how many doors and one package (sunroof, passive keyless entry/push button ignition, and navigation/Dynaudio premium sound).
I chose 2 door in Candy White and the upgraded package.
My family has bought Toyota for decades but there was nothing on the immediate horizon that piqued my interest. My requirements were:
-2 door
-6 speed manual
-RWD or AWD
-somewhat fuel efficient
-under 40k
I considered:
Scion FRS/Subaru BRZ - took too long to come to market, not as premium of an interior as I'd like and no hatch
5 door STI - 2 too many doors and interior is really garbage for the price point
IS coupe - well, there isn't one yet so... who knows price, transmission options, etc.
A5 - too pricey with the options I'd want and I wouldn't feel right knowing there's an S5 out there
I'm very happy with my purchase, it's everything I want in a vehicle right now. The car feels like a premium car, very quiet interior, materials are excellent and some nice conveniences and luxuries.
Planned mods are LED tails from the Euro model and a stealth subwoofer/sound deadening.

To clarify the tune is estimated to add ~20hp/60tq to the wheels. The stock 256/243 figure is at the crank. I'll be having it dyno'd and fine tuned in a week or so but someone else running the same tune as me has had it dyno'd and those estimated figures were from him on an AWD Mustang dyno.

What was your opinion of the 2012 WRX vs the GTI? It's just as fast as the STi in the power department, you're mostly buying the brakes/suspension with the STi package these days (WRXs even have the same body now). I never got the drive the GTI but I did cross-shop the MS3 and the WRX a good bit.
The STI having beefier suspension and brakes and the extra gear is worth the premium I think. The WRX engine internals aren't as strong as the STI is meant to handle.
