Must be an article written by Hyundai.
Omg, a competitor looked at the competition. How is this news?
of course it's news when a company ADMITS that the release of a competitor's vehicle caused them to re-evaluate.
Toyota said their biggest threat was Hyundai years ago. Again how is this news?
doesn't matter what toyota said or when, this is still news.
but i take your point - it's why i never watch 'local news' about crimes that go on every day, the occasional house fire, or cat stuck in a tree, etc. stupid.

i think it is ugly, but looks expensive.
Also, if you actually read the complete article, they said they looked at Sonata but that also all of the competitors benchmark Camry and Altima.
I think it's humorous that Hyundai, who is notorious at taking design cues from other car manufacturers(not saying that they are the only ones), and now other established car manufacturers are taking cues from them.
wow, 100% disagree. compared to a camry, the new altima is beautiful.
Well you're comparing it to a Camry. The Camry isn't the standard for style in its class.
The ironic thing is the Altima had to delay its car b/c of the Sonata and its "outrageous" styling. And yet, the Altima is very toned down/conservative -> boring.
2013 Ford Fusion is by far the best design so far in this class. Let's see what Honda comes out with.

I dont think Altima or Nissan took a single clue from Hyundai.
And if you read article they said they had to step back and look if they are competitive, but at the end of the day, that all of the manufacturers look at Camry and Altima as benchmarks.
As far as I'm concerned, just do the new Altima the way it is now, and forget about the new Sonata. I'm definitely not a fan of the new Sonata's looks at all, though it is admttedly a good car underneath the skin. But the stying, IMO, was ridiculous from Day One.
(I'd give the new 2012 VW Passat, somewhat reluctantly, the title of best-looking U.S.-market mid-size sedan. It has nice tasteful lines and is not overstyled like a space-ship.)
