But the current 5/6 series gained 400 pounds from the previous generation. How much can the CF hood shave off from that 400lbs penalty?
That's the problem with all latest cars, they are adding more weight then they can save from lightweight material. Eventually cars will lose weight again when they figure out how to lower the cost of CF manufacturing. It will be a while, probably like 10 more years, but it will happen.
It can be done, as seen by the 2500 lbs Mclaren F1 that came out in 1992, the only issue is cost. The F1 was a $1 million dollar car 20 years ago, they just have to figure out how to do the same thing to a $100k car.
