The F Sport version is awesome. I love the updated front end treatment, it really works on the RX.

Looks okay. Although to me it looks like a Kia Sorrento... not my favorite I have to say, but still is undeniably a great car.

2013 RX F-Sport to have 8 speed transmission.

The new RX 350 and RX 450h hybrid will begin arriving in dealerships this May…And tomorrow in New York, we’ll show the newest member of the RX family, the RX 350 F Sport.

Equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and a specially tuned F Sport suspension, the RX F Sport will add a little more EDGE to the RX lineup.

Lexus couldn't put an 8 speed auto in the new GS, but gave the RX one for its mid cycle update? Why? I guess that means the new ES will have that 8 speed auto.

No, that means the 8-speed auto is meant for mid-cycle updates as a sales booster, so both the GS and the ES should get it come their respective facelifts 2-3 years down the road.

Egads I want to see and drive this F-sport in person....

Dear Lexus, WTF can't we get the RX 450h and GS 450h F-sports here....not all us hybrid owners and admirers are the same!

Will the 8-speed transmission make a big difference compared to the 6-speed transmision that the current RX has?

will we? Arent they completely different transmissions? U660 vs A760

although it makes you wonder why are they offering it only on F-Sport model, it has to be part of some bigger plan, but I cant see it... maybe GR will continue in FF applications but they will do something new for FR, but that makes no sense. It could be possibly timing issue but then again they wouldnt offer it on base ES and top RX, they would offer them on base RX first.

or... what if ALL RX350's get 8 speed, as well as ES and difference in RX F-Sport is paddle shifters?

The 8-speed automatic transmission of the RX 350 F SPORT version is now equipped with a steering wheel-mounted paddle shift control.
that might make sense with the wording above, and in general makes sense... they would first update their biggest sellers, while GS might be simply year later when they do new LS.

it just doesnt make sense to me for them to put money into GR FF transmission only for limited model. GR series engines will not go on forever.

Multiply this by 1000 times. Can we have the Sportiness and the great mileage as well?

Speaking of great mileage, the first picture is strictly city after refueled. The second picture is after 60 miles on hway with speed between 65-75 (I reset the average before I got into the hway). This is done in 450h AWD and Shell 91.

different so? i didn't say they are same tranny with 2 more gears

bottom line is if the 8 speed make it to rx (and potentially es) but not gs, that becomes pretty awkwardly funny

yeah, well here is what i think are the facts:
1. Putting new 8 speed transmission only for RX F-Sport makes no sense (to invest money in new transmission and then only offer it on small number of vehicles).
2. New GR series engine replacement is coming soon (as in within 2 years or so) and hence Lexus might have decided lets wait for new engine before we introduce 8 speed (what we all speculated before, right?).

So 1 and 2 being true, quite possibly both ES and RX will get 8 speed while GS will wait for something new... it could be that it will be first introduced in next LS350?

And maybe they will wait for 8 speed in all ES/RX until GS/LS get it? Hence, offering it in RX F-Sport only.

But in general, limiting models like that will just give sales to competition, so it makes little sense. ES and RX would increase their sales with 8 speed vs competition. To hurt ES/RX sales so GS people wouldnt be embarrassed, doesnt make sense :-).
